Homegrown motorcycle taxi platform MOVE IT, as part of its commitment to high standards of road safety and industry-leading driver quality, partnered with veteran journalist and motorcycle enthusiast Kuya Kim Atienza to have him personally go through the platform’s driver assessment and onboarding process.

Known for his love of motorcycles and dedication to public service, Kuya Kim underwent MOVE IT’s six-step rider onboarding program, proving firsthand that MOVE IT does not give out Ka-MOVE IT gear without ensuring riders meet strict qualifications.

In a vlog posted on his Facebook page, Kuya Kim documented his participation in the complete MOVE IT driver assessment process, which consists of six distinct stages designed to ensure rider competence, professionalism, and adherence to safety protocols.

Document Screening

The first step is document screening. MOVE IT requires 100 percent compliance from aspiring riders, which includes submitting NBI, police, and CIBI clearance. Applicants must also undergo both drug and health testing when applying and repeat these tests every six months. This step is intended to ensure that every rider on the platform meets legal and health requirements before proceeding to other stages.

Vehicle Inspection

Following document approval, applicants must pass vehicle inspection. All units are required to meet roadworthiness standards aligned with the Motorcycle Taxi Pilot Study. This check ensures that every motorcycle used for passenger transport is in optimal condition, minimizing the risk of mechanical failure during rides.

Skills Assessment

The next stage is the skills assessment, where applicants, including Kuya Kim, take part in real-world riding tests. These include backriding drills, vehicle control, and road-readiness evaluations. The assessment focuses on a rider’s ability to safely and smoothly operate the motorcycle, particularly with a passenger onboard, while following traffic rules and best practices for safe driving.

Training and Orientation

After passing the skills assessment, riders attend a training and orientation session. This classroom-based program covers road safety protocols, passenger service standards, and navigation of the MOVE IT mobile application. The training also prepares riders to deliver consistent, professional service to passengers. MOVE IT further requires all riders to attend an annual mandatory retraining program to refresh skills and reinforce safety awareness.

Account Activation

A rider’s account is only activated once all previous stages have been successfully completed. This ensures that every active MOVE IT rider has met the necessary documentation, equipment, and skills requirements. Kuya Kim’s participation demonstrated that no shortcuts are given in the process.

Gear Release

The final stage is the gear release. MOVE IT provides each qualified rider with free, high-grade safety gear, reflecting the platform’s commitment to professionalizing moto-taxi riding and ensuring both rider and passenger protection on every trip.

Alongside his vlog, Kuya Kim also introduced I-Sumbong Mo sa MOVE IT, a new feedback channel available through Facebook Messenger. This service allows passengers to conveniently report safety-related concerns and share feedback about their riding experience. The feature works in addition to MOVE IT’s in-app ratings system and its “Report an Issue” function, giving passengers multiple ways to communicate their concerns and helping the platform maintain high service standards.

MOVE IT’s onboarding process and expanded feedback tools demonstrate a focus on rider qualification, safety compliance, and open communication with passengers. By having a well-known motorcycle enthusiast and public figure like Kuya Kim experience the process, the platform showcased its dedication to upholding rigorous standards for every rider on its network.
