Epson, a global technology leader, has released its FY2024 Southeast Asia (SEA) Sustainability Report. The report details progress in advancing regional circular economy initiatives, strengthening emissions transparency, and scaling community programs across the region. Aligned with Epson’s global Environmental Vision 2050, the report highlights Epson SEA’s goal of achieving carbon negativity and reducing reliance on underground resources.
Epson began collecting regional emissions data in FY23 and has already recorded measurable improvements. The FY24 report covers four key materialities: Achieve Sustainability in a Circular Economy, Advance the Frontiers of Industry, Improve Quality of Life, and Fulfil Social Responsibility. Within this framework, Epson reduced electricity usage by about 11% in FY24, cutting Scope 2 emissions to 814 tons CO₂e, roughly the equivalent of the annual energy use of 4,500 refrigerators.
Achieving Sustainability in a More Circular Economy
In FY24, Epson SEA advanced its circular economy agenda by reducing waste and logistics-related emissions. The expansion of drop-shipping operations avoided 113 tons of CO₂e, a potential 21% increase compared to FY23.
To further improve sustainability, Epson expanded Scope 3 emissions tracking in FY24. This enhanced visibility supports more informed decision-making and strengthens Epson’s place-based approach, where individual markets lead localized initiatives to reduce waste, conserve resources, and improve environmental performance.
Regional achievements include the recycling of more than 1,600 kilograms of ink consumables and the conversion of over 500 kilograms of food waste into fertilizer, equivalent to about 1,700 meals. Epson also advanced in-office sustainability. One SEA office achieved BCA Green Mark Gold certification during the reporting period, while five more offices received additional certifications. These milestones reflect Epson’s commitment to sustainable building practices that improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon footprints.
Strengthening Governance and Efficiency to Advance Industry Frontiers
Epson SEA continued to integrate sustainability into its operations through governance, digitalization, and employee-focused initiatives. Governance was reinforced with 100% employee participation in compliance training, alongside strict anti-corruption, health, and safety measures.
In FY24, Epson SEA reported zero workplace-related incidents. The company also invested in its people through targeted training and well-being programs, highlighting a commitment to operational excellence and employee safety.
Enhancing Community Quality of Life in Epson’s Operational Regions
Improving access to education remained a central focus in FY24. Epson expanded its “Epson Goes to School” program, donating printers to help teachers and students access learning materials. Epson also supported robotics programs across the region, equipping students with skills and tools to thrive in a digital future. These initiatives reflect Epson’s long-term commitment to supporting education and inspiring the next generation of innovators.
Upholding Social Responsibility Through Partnerships
Epson SEA strengthened social responsibility through partnerships that restore ecosystems and reduce waste. Clean-up efforts across six SEA markets resulted in the recovery of more than 1,400 kilograms of waste, including plastics and foam.
Epson Indonesia worked with WWF’s Trees for Life project to plant 200,000 trees across 300 hectares, benefiting 300 families and contributing to long-term ecosystem restoration. These efforts demonstrate Epson’s commitment to environmental stewardship and community resilience.
Commitment to Regional and Global Sustainability Goals
“At Epson, sustainability is about empowering our employees and communities to drive positive change and create a better future,” said Tan May Lin, Sustainability Task Force Leader, Epson Southeast Asia. “Alongside strong collaboration with partners and the community, our task force has strengthened data transparency and accountability across SEA. Aligning Epson’s global sustainability goals with regional priorities ensures we track progress and scale initiatives that make a meaningful impact.”
Alvin Tan, Lead for Country Initiatives, Epson Southeast Asia, added, “Sustainability progress must be lived out across Epson’s markets in SEA.
