Nike Basketball Introduces New Flight, Force and Uptempo Performance Builds Across the G.T. Series

Nike Basketball is introducing a new footwear design and performance foundation centered on three distinct builds: Flight, Force and Uptempo. The new approach reflects how modern basketball players move, play and express their personal style, moving beyond traditional position-based footwear categories.

As the game continues to evolve, players increasingly move between different roles and responsibilities from one possession to the next, often regardless of their listed positions. Nike Basketball is responding to this shift by developing footwear around individual movement patterns, playing styles and preferred underfoot experiences.

Rooted in five decades of Nike Basketball design and innovation, Flight, Force and Uptempo revive three established names with a history across branded basketball and signature footwear. Nike is reimagining their legacy for the next generation through updated performance capabilities and a contemporary design language informed by today’s athletes and the modern game.

The new foundation comes to life through the G.T. Series, Nike Basketball’s pinnacle performance footwear offering. The collection features three models: G.T. Flight, G.T. Force and G.T. Uptempo, each representing a distinct approach to basketball performance.

Developed through insights from elite youth basketball players around the world and validated by the world’s greats, the new footwear foundation aims to provide more relevant, responsive and specific performance options for today’s game. Each build combines athlete insights, Nike design and performance innovation to create a distinct on-court experience.

The three categories also give basketball players clearer footwear choices based on their individual playing styles and preferred underfoot feel. Rather than relying primarily on traditional player positions, Nike Basketball’s approach focuses on the movements and performance characteristics that define how athletes compete.

The G.T. Series also reflects a global basketball culture in which performance and personal style remain closely connected. Its three builds feature a design direction described as simple, progressive, confident and unmistakably Nike Basketball. Created for a generation less interested in fitting traditional molds, the collection captures the character of today’s game while looking toward its future.

“Basketball is the soul of Nike,” says Ross Klein, VP/Creative Director, Nike Basketball. “It’s always pushed us to think differently, experiment and imagine what’s possible. This new foundation lets us bring the best of Nike Basketball performance and design to athletes in a way that’s more intuitive, more personal and built to evolve with the game.”

Flight: The Build for Explosive Lift

Explosive lift involves more than jumping. It covers different forms of propulsive movement, including rising for rebounds, attacking the rim and moving quickly through passing lanes on defense.

The G.T. Flight is designed around these movements, combining Nike technologies intended to support jumping, bounding and running throughout a basketball game. Its performance construction brings together cushioning, support, comfort and traction to help players move explosively from the opening tip to the final buzzer.

A full-length Zoom Strobel and Cushlon 3.0 foam form the foundation of the G.T. Flight’s cushioning system. These components work alongside a textile bootie, TPU cage and sock liner, which provide support and comfort.

The shoe also features a rubber traction outsole that helps athletes translate explosive movements onto the court. Its construction and bold visual design reflect the feeling of flight, reinforcing the model’s focus on players who rely on powerful upward and forward movements.

Through this combination of Nike innovations, the G.T. Flight represents the Flight performance build, which prioritizes explosive lift and the movements associated with elevation and propulsion.

Force: The Build for Dynamic Power

Nike Basketball’s Force build targets players recognized for their power and athleticism on both ends of the court. It supports sustained effort, forceful movements and rapid transitions as athletes move between different positions and responsibilities throughout a game.

The G.T. Force is available in both high-top and low-top models. Its construction combines responsive cushioning, stability and containment to help players maintain their power during demanding on-court movements.

ZoomX 3.0 foam provides energy management and comfort, while a synthetic armor upper helps contain the foot. These components support the shoe’s focus on players who depend on strength, athleticism and controlled movement during offensive and defensive situations.

A TPU window and shank work alongside a rubber cup sole to complete the G.T. Force construction. Together, these elements establish a performance build that combines dynamic basketball capabilities with a bold design expression.

The Force category gives players a footwear option centered on power, stability and containment. Its design supports athletes whose playing styles require sustained physical effort and the ability to generate force while transitioning between different roles on the court.

Uptempo: The Build for Reactive Speed

Reactive speed describes the ability to recognize what is happening during a game, process information quickly and turn that understanding into an advantage on either end of the floor.

The G.T. Uptempo is designed for players whose performances depend on rhythm, instinct and precision. Its construction is intended to feel like an extension of the foot, emphasizing responsiveness and court feel during rapid movements.

The shoe features a lightweight, low-to-the-ground construction that enhances court feel. This design helps basketball players create separation through quick acceleration and deceleration, supporting the movements required by a fast and reactive playing style.

Its cushioning system combines ZoomX 3.0 foam, an Air Zoom Strobel and a heel Air Zoom unit to deliver responsiveness. An engineered mesh upper, Cushlon carrier, TPU window and shank, and rubber outsole complete the shoe’s construction.

These components support the G.T. Uptempo’s focus on reactive speed while contributing to a design that both looks and feels fast. The model represents Nike Basketball’s Uptempo build, which prioritizes quick reactions, precise movements and responsiveness during play.

A Clearer Choice for Every Kind of Game

The Flight, Force and Uptempo performance builds serve as the foundation for all Nike Basketball footwear, including signature models designed around the individual movements and identities of specific athletes.

Several Nike signature athletes illustrate how the three categories translate into different playing styles. LeBron James and Ja Morant take Flight, while A’ja Wilson, Giannis Antetokounmpo and the S.T. Charge silhouette lean into Force.

Meanwhile, Devin Booker, Caitlin Clark, Kevin Durant and Sabrina Ionescu represent the Uptempo category, reflecting its emphasis on pace and reactive movement. These alignments can evolve as individual athletes and their playing styles change over time.

By connecting signature footwear to the three performance builds, Nike Basketball establishes a clearer approach to categorizing its basketball shoes. Each signature model draws from the same foundation while incorporating adjustments based on the specific movements, insights and identities of its respective athlete.

The three builds also give basketball players clearer direction when selecting footwear for their current playing styles. At the same time, the system provides flexibility for athletes to make different choices as their games develop and their performance needs change.

The G.T. Series represents the pinnacle expression of this footwear approach. Through G.T. Flight, G.T. Force and G.T. Uptempo, the collection brings together Nike athlete insights, design expertise and performance innovation to deliver three distinct on-court experiences.

For Nike Basketball, the new foundation connects five decades of design heritage with the changing requirements of modern basketball. Flight, Force and Uptempo establish more specific performance choices while continuing Nike’s efforts to advance basketball footwear alongside athletes.

The Nike G.T. Flight, G.T. Force and G.T. Uptempo will be available February 11 in North America through nike.com and select retail locations. A global launch will follow.
