The REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G is designed for users who want a smartphone that can keep up with everyday demands while putting battery life, performance, display quality, and durability at the forefront. We’re fortunate enough to have our hands on the new REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G in the Sky Blue color variant, equipped with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. In this hands-on review, we take a closer look at the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G, from its unboxing and design to its display, camera, performance, gaming, storage, and battery, to help readers understand what the device offers and decide whether it is the right smartphone for their needs.

Unboxing/Accessories

The REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G comes in a simple white box. On the front, it features a muted gray panel with the phone’s name in bold black letters, the Xiaomi logo in the corner, and key details highlighted on a label showing its massive 8,340mAh (typ) battery, 67W HyperCharge, support for up to 12GB RAM, 128GB ROM storage, and built-in NFC capability.

Opening the box, you will find the Sky Blue color variant of the phone right away. Underneath the device, the box contains a dark protective phone case with the SIM ejector tool attached, a 67W power adapter, a USB Type-C charging cable, and essential paperwork such as the safety and quick start guides.

Overall, the box gives you everything required to start using, charging, and protecting the new phone right away. For buyers who prefer having the essential accessories included from the start, there is no need to separately look for a basic case or compatible charging adapter before getting started.

Build Quality / Design

The REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G does not look like a typical rugged phone. Instead, it has a sleek and modern design that feels more like a regular premium smartphone. It measures 163.45mm in height, 78.27mm in width, and 8.6mm in thickness, with a weight of 223 grams.

For the Philippine market, the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G is available in Black and Sky Blue. Our review unit is the Sky Blue variant, which has a silky matte finish with a soft, cloudy gradient that reminds us of an endless blue sky. It looks particularly nice in person, and the finish gives the back a premium appearance and feel that we really like.

One of the most noticeable design elements is the rounded rectangular camera module at the top-left corner. Its shape and size give the phone a premium, almost flagship-like appearance. It houses two big camera lenses stacked vertically, with a circular LED flash positioned to the right.

The display is protected by Corning® Gorilla® Glass Victus® 2. The phone also has IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K protection ratings under specific laboratory conditions.

These ratings mean the phone has protection against dust and water. However, they do not mean the phone is completely waterproof or safe for every water-related situation.

Xiaomi also advises users not to test the water resistance themselves. The protection may become weaker over time due to normal use, physical damage, or repairs.

For everyday users, this combination of a premium-looking design and extensive protection is one of the more interesting aspects of the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G. It looks and feels like a modern smartphone rather than a traditional rugged phone while still offering added protection for everyday use.

Display

The REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G has a large 6.83-inch AMOLED display with a 1.5K resolution of 2772 x 1280 pixels and 447 PPI. It supports a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, making scrolling, animations, and supported content feel smoother. The display also supports 12-bit color, an 8,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and DCI-P3 wide color coverage, while HEVC support helps with compatible video content.

With up to 3,500 nits of brightness under UHBM conditions and 1,060 nits of typical brightness, the screen is also designed to remain visible in different lighting conditions. Its Sunlight Display feature is intended to improve outdoor visibility, while DC dimming, 3840Hz PWM dimming, and TÜV Rheinland certifications for Low Blue Light, Circadian Friendly, and Flicker Free are designed to make viewing more comfortable.

Touch response is another highlight, with a 240Hz touch sampling rate and up to 3200Hz instantaneous touch sampling when enabled through Game Turbo. The phone also features Wet Touch Technology 2.0, which is designed to help the screen respond when the display or fingers are wet.

For everyday use, the large AMOLED display is also well suited for media consumption. Watching a favorite series on streaming platforms, catching up on videos, browsing photos, or simply scrolling through social media benefits from the large screen, sharp 1.5K resolution, smooth 120Hz refresh rate, and wide color support.

Performance

The REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon® 6s Gen 4 Mobile Platform, built on a 4nm process with an octa-core CPU reaching speeds of up to 2.4GHz and an Adreno GPU for graphics. It comes with LPDDR4X RAM and UFS storage, with the 128GB version using UFS 2.2, while the 256GB and 512GB versions use the faster UFS 3.1 standard.

The phone runs Xiaomi HyperOS 3 and includes several AI-powered features such as AI Erase Pro, AI Glare Removal, AI Image Expansion, AI Sky, AI Bokeh, AI Image Enhancement, and AI Beautify. It also supports Circle to Search with Google and Google Gemini, although some features may vary depending on software and region.

For everyday connectivity, the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G supports 5G, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.1, NFC, and dual SIM configurations. It also comes with useful extras such as an IR blaster, which can be used to control compatible devices, as well as an in-screen fingerprint sensor and AI face unlock for security.

Audio is handled by dual speakers with Xiaomi’s stated 300% volume boost, along with Dolby Atmos® and Hi-Res support. Xiaomi explains that the 300% figure refers to 17 volume levels compared with 15 levels, while actual results can vary depending on the software and how the phone is used.

For general use, the combination of the Snapdragon 6s Gen 4, up to 12GB of RAM depending on the configuration, Xiaomi HyperOS 3, and its built-in connectivity and AI features gives the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G a feature set designed to handle everyday apps, entertainment, communication, and other common smartphone tasks.

Gaming Performance

For gaming, we tested the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G with Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) and Call of Duty: Mobile to see how it handles fast-paced gameplay and longer gaming sessions.

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang runs smoothly at moderate-to-high settings. During our testing, the phone handled the game comfortably with reliable frame rates, making it a smooth experience for everyday MOBA sessions without major stutter.

Call of Duty: Mobile is also very much playable and runs smoothly on its default settings. Standard matches played out reliably during our testing, keeping the experience stable and comfortable for casual gaming.

The phone’s 120Hz display and 240Hz touch sampling rate also add to the gaming experience, while instantaneous touch sampling can reach up to 3200Hz when enabled through Game Turbo. Overall, our hands-on testing shows that the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G can comfortably handle these popular mobile games for everyday gaming.

Benchmark Results

To get a better idea of how the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G performs, we ran several benchmark tests covering processor, overall system, and graphics performance.

In Geekbench 7, the phone scored 859 in single-core and 2,457 in multi-core. For PCMark Work 3.1, it recorded a performance score of 12,203.

The REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G also recorded an overall score of 794,074 in AnTuTu Benchmark v11.1.5. For graphics stability, the 3DMark Wild Life Extreme Stress Test recorded a best loop score of 768, a lowest loop score of 764, and a 99.5% stability rating.

These results provide a snapshot of the phone’s performance under specific testing conditions. While benchmark scores are useful for reference, they do not always reflect exactly how a phone will perform in everyday use.

Storage

The REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G is available in the Philippines in three configurations: 6GB + 128GB, 6GB + 256GB, and 8GB + 256GB. The 128GB version uses UFS 2.2 storage, while the 256GB versions use UFS 3.1.

Our review unit comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, which provides enough space for everyday apps, photos, videos, games, and other content. As with any smartphone, the actual available storage is lower than the advertised capacity because some space is used by the system and pre-installed software.

Battery

A massive 8,340mAh silicon-carbon battery is one of the biggest features of the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G. Its large capacity provides plenty of power for everyday tasks such as browsing, streaming, gaming, navigation, and communication.

The phone supports 67W HyperCharge and up to 22.5W wired reverse charging, allowing its large battery to charge compatible devices and accessories such as wireless earbuds. It uses a USB Type-C port and supports PD3.0 and PD2.0 charging protocols.

In our PCMark Work 3.1 battery test, the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G recorded 22 hours and 11 minutes. This gives an idea of how long the phone can run under a continuous workload in a controlled test, although actual battery life will vary depending on how the phone is used.

For everyday users, the combination of a large battery, fast charging, and reverse charging makes the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G practical for people who spend long hours on their phone or often carry other devices that need a quick top-up.

Our hands-on battery and charging experience will also be considered alongside the benchmark result to give a better picture of its real-world battery performance.

Next is the Camera section. Since this is a hands-on review, I’d keep the official camera specifications brief and leave room for your actual photo samples and observations.

Camera

The REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G has a dual-camera setup on the back, led by a 50MP main camera with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). The main camera has an f/1.8 aperture, 0.64μm pixel size, and a 5P lens, while the 8MP ultra-wide camera has a 1.12μm pixel size and f/2.2 aperture.

The rear camera comes with features such as Live Moment, HDR, Portrait mode, Underwater mode, Ultra HD mode, Panorama, Documents, and Pro mode. It also includes AI-powered camera tools such as AI Erase Pro, AI Glare Removal, AI Image Expansion, AI Sky, AI Bokeh, AI Image Enhancement, and AI Beautify. Xiaomi notes that Underwater mode is available through an OTA update.

For video, the rear cameras can record at up to 1080p at 30fps. The 16MP front camera has an f/2.4 aperture and can also record at up to 1080p at 30fps.

For our hands-on testing, we wanted to see how the camera performs in actual everyday situations rather than just taking test shots around the office. We brought the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G to a concert, used it during an afternoon tea at a hotel, took it along on random photowalks, and captured shots of animals and other subjects along the way.

The camera system delivered impressive versatility and detail across different lighting conditions and subjects. We captured sharp close-up textures on reptile scales, vibrant macro shots of a grasshopper, and richly saturated colors in food and product displays such as pumpkins and lipsticks. During a concert, the camera also handled the stage lighting well while maintaining good detail and color.

Across these different scenarios, the camera consistently produced sharp images with pleasing colors, good dynamic range, and a natural-looking depth of field. Considering the phone’s price range, the results were particularly impressive. Whether taking everyday photos, documenting food and products, capturing animals, or creating content while out and about, the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G proved to be a capable and reliable camera for everyday photography and lifestyle content.

Verdict

After spending time with the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G, what stands out is how much it focuses on the things people actually use their phones for every day. It combines a large display, a big battery, capable performance, gaming support, useful cameras, and added protection in a design that still feels like a regular premium smartphone.

The 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED display is particularly well suited for everyday entertainment. Its large size makes browsing, social media, gaming, and watching movies or catching up on favorite series on streaming platforms more enjoyable, while the 120Hz refresh rate makes scrolling and supported content feel smoother. The high brightness also makes the screen easier to see outdoors.

Performance has also been solid in our hands-on testing. The phone handles everyday apps and entertainment comfortably, while Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and Call of Duty: Mobile both ran smoothly at the settings we tested.
