Review: Ugreen Nexode RG 30W and 65W GaN Charger

In an effort to reduce their environmental impact, phone manufacturers are increasingly skipping wall chargers in smartphone packaging. This shift aims to lessen e-waste, but let’s be honest: even though many of us have chargers from previous phones, finding a reliable and compatible one to keep our shiny new devices powered up safely and quickly can still be challenging.

Inside the box, you’ll find the charger itself and a user guide. However, the Ugreen Nexode RG GaN Charger doesn’t come with any cables. In that case, I would highly recommend a Ugreen USB C to USB C 100W Fast Cable. In fact, I have a few and can’t rate them highly enough.

Today’s phone chargers are all pretty much the same. They’re made of plain plastic with just branding, a plug, and a USB port – nothing to set them apart. While recent years have seen a shift towards see-through designs and power banks with flashy screens, UGREEN takes a whole new approach with its latest chargers. Forget boring bricks! When your device is fully charged, its little mouth turns off, a clear signal to unplug.

But wait, there’s more! These robot chargers are functional, too. At the top is where you’ll find the charging ports, ready to juice up your devices. And on the bottom, you’ll find removable shoes that house the AC plug, making them easy to store and transport. But these shoes do double duty! They also act as adorable little robot feet, allowing the charger to stand upright.

The 30W charger takes functionality a step further. Its magnetic shoes are strong enough to hold the entire charger to a whiteboard, turning it into a playful and accessible charger at your desk. However, it’s important to note that while the magnet can hold the charger, it might not be ideal for all situations. The magnet’s strength may not be sufficient for long-term use, and the shoes themselves don’t have a locking mechanism. For this reason, we wouldn’t recommend mounting the charger to a whiteboard.

Nevertheless, the magnetized shoes on both models help secure the plug covers to a metal surface when the charger is not in use. However, since the plug cover isn’t physically attached to the charger, it’s easy to forget, especially if you’re charging on the go.

While the 65-watt version only comes in a sleek black, the 30-watt RG fast charger comes in black or light purple with a ribbon at the back. So, with these options, you can choose a charger that will fit your personality and desktop design!

As its name suggests, the Ugreen Nexode Robot GaN 30W charger can deliver up to 30W charging speed, making it a great choice for quickly powering up most smartphones. For users who need even faster charging and the ability to power multiple devices, the Ugreen Nexode Robot GaN 65W charger offers a versatile solution. It features three ports—two USB-C ports and one USB-A. While the USB-C1 port delivers the full 65 watts, the USB-C2 port is limited to 30 watts, and the USB-A port provides up to 22.5 watts. However, it’s important to note that using all three ports on the 65-watt charger won’t simultaneously give you the maximum charging speeds for each device.

Personally, I have always used the primary USB-C port for my laptop and the other two ports for my smartphone and wireless headphones. This setup allows me to charge all my essential devices at once, though depending on your needs, you might prioritize the ports differently.
