TCL, recognized as the No. 1 Panel TV Brand in the Philippines for three consecutive years according to the 2025 Annual Cumulative Market Share Report by TRS Research, is pushing the boundaries of home entertainment with its latest display innovation, Super-QD Mini LED (SQD-Mini LED).
As a global leader in display technology and a pioneer in Mini LED, TCL is taking a different approach to improving picture quality. Instead of focusing on a single hardware upgrade, SQD-Mini LED combines advances in light control, color, and panel technology to create a more complete premium viewing experience.
SQD-Mini LED represents the next chapter in TCL’s display innovation and its continuing effort to redefine what consumers can expect from a premium TV. The technology has already received international recognition through the TCL X11L, the world’s first SQD-Mini LED flagship TV.
The TCL X11L won a Gold Award for Innovative Display Technology at the Global Top Brands (GTB) Awards during CES 2026. Presented by International Data Group (IDG) with support from IDC, the recognition underscores TCL’s growing influence in shaping the future of display technology.
“Today’s viewers don’t watch TV only in dark rooms. They stream sports in bright living spaces, spend hours gaming, and increasingly choose larger screens where brightness, color consistency, and motion clarity matter even more. A premium TV, therefore, can’t be great at just one thing. It needs to deliver a consistently strong viewing experience across different environments and content types. That’s what SQD-Mini LED is designed to do,” explains Maxi Chen, Senior Product Manager of Brownline, TCL Philippines.
Beyond the Spec Sheet
TV technology has come a long way, but for consumers, the growing number of technical terms can make it harder, not easier, to understand what actually makes one display better than another.
TCL Philippines recently brought this conversation closer to real-world viewing through an exclusive media roundtable that looked beyond specifications and industry terminology. The experiential session combined insights from TCL leadership with side-by-side product demonstrations, giving media a chance to see how different Mini LED technologies perform when viewed under the same conditions.
“TCL wants to make the TV-buying experience easier by turning technical claims into something consumers can actually see. With interactive displays and side-by-side comparisons, shoppers can experience the difference in brightness, contrast, and color for themselves, rather than having to decode a long list of specifications,” shares Maxi Chen.
At the heart of SQD-Mini LED are three technologies working together: Precise Dimming, Super QLED, and the Ultra Color Filter. Each technology addresses a different aspect of the viewing experience, while their combined performance forms the foundation of TCL’s approach to premium display quality.
Precise Dimming serves as the foundation of SQD-Mini LED. It combines upgraded micro-lens structures, Micro-OD architecture, and intelligent backlight algorithms to give the display more precise light control.
This approach results in brighter highlights, more consistent illumination, and deeper contrast. It also reduces the haloing that can sometimes appear around bright objects in dark scenes. By focusing on light control, Precise Dimming addresses key aspects of picture quality that viewers can notice across different types of content.
Super QLED builds on this light-control system by providing a wider color gamut, higher color purity, and optimized blue-light distribution. This allows the display to reproduce richer and more accurate colors, particularly in scenes where subtle color differences matter.
The Ultra Color Filter completes the picture. Using color-filtering particles smaller than 5 nanometers, the technology helps reduce color interference and preserve cleaner, more distinct colors, including on larger screens.
Together, Precise Dimming, Super QLED, and the Ultra Color Filter focus less on chasing impressive numbers on a specification sheet and more on addressing what viewers actually notice during everyday viewing.
The technologies are designed to help bright scenes stay clear in well-lit rooms, allow dark scenes to retain depth without unwanted halos, and keep colors rich and consistent from scene to scene. This combined approach positions SQD-Mini LED around the overall viewing experience rather than a single display specification.
Independent testing by Omdia gave TCL’s SQD-Mini LED a perfect 10/10 score across brightness, color consistency, color gamut, and 4K motion clarity. The display also maintained rich, accurate colors even in small highlights, showing how the technology performs beyond the numbers typically used to describe a TV.
The difference becomes even more apparent when SQD-Mini LED is viewed alongside competing Mini LED TVs. TCL’s side-by-side demonstrations showed how different brands approach the same underlying technology and how those differences can translate into different viewing experiences.
This shifts the conversation from simply asking which TV uses Mini LED to asking how well that Mini LED technology performs in the real world.
For TCL, the focus remains on how display technologies work together to address different aspects of picture quality. SQD-Mini LED combines Precise Dimming, Super QLED, and the Ultra Color Filter as part of a single display approach designed around brightness, contrast, color, and motion clarity.

It combines deep contrast and minimal blooming with high brightness, vibrant colors, and the durability consumers expect from a display they plan to use for years. It’s about giving people premium picture quality without having to build their entire viewing environment around the TV,” says Maxi Chen.
