As the peak holiday season approaches, AirAsia Philippines has partnered with the Bureau of Immigration, Manila International Airport, and the Philippine National Police to enhance safety measures and protect passengers from potential risks. This collaboration focuses on addressing critical issues like human trafficking, which is a significant concern during busy travel periods.

Joint Efforts to Strengthen Security

The initiative brings together key industry stakeholders to bolster security at the country’s primary airports. Human trafficking, a growing issue, is a priority focus for this partnership. By pooling resources and expertise, the goal is to create a safer travel environment for passengers.

AirAsia Philippines has also committed to equipping hundreds of its Allstars—including ground staff, security personnel, and flight crew—with specialized training. This training enables them to identify potential victims of trafficking, offer support, and collaborate with authorities to prevent exploitation.

Ongoing Monitoring of Human Trafficking

This effort is part of AirAsia’s support for the Bureau of Immigration in its ongoing mission to monitor and respond to trafficking activities. As of September, the Bureau had intercepted approximately 700 victims of human trafficking, underscoring the need for proactive measures during the high-traffic holiday season.

Steve Dailisan, Head of Communications and Public Affairs & First Officer of AirAsia Philippines, stated, “The comfort and wellbeing of our guests and crew is always our top priority. Our strong collaboration with relevant authorities and stakeholders through proper reporting channels and robust safety/security management systems contribute to protecting Filipinos when they choose to fly with AirAsia.”

Proactive Approach and Recent Success

AirAsia’s proactive approach was recently put to the test when a potential trafficking incident was intercepted, demonstrating the effectiveness of the collaboration with the Bureau of Immigration and other stakeholders. According to Dailisan, “As many Filipinos prepare for the end of year holiday travel, traffickers may try to use this time to pass victims off as tourists. Our highly trained Allstars stay vigilant against trafficking networks that might exploit this season’s excitement, working closely with authorities to ensure our travelers’ safety in order to protect vulnerable individuals from exploitation.”

Commitment to Operational Integrity and Safety

AirAsia Philippines, recognized as the World’s Best Low-Cost Airline, remains committed to providing safe and affordable travel. Through its continuous collaboration with government agencies, the airline strives to maintain the highest standards of operational integrity and safety at all times, especially during peak travel periods.

Encouraging Vigilance from Passengers

With the busy holiday season just around the corner, AirAsia urges all passengers to stay vigilant and informed. The airline encourages travelers to report any suspicious activity they may encounter to maintain a secure and safe travel environment.

Safety Advice for Passengers to Avoid Trafficking Schemes

To help protect travelers from trafficking schemes while abroad, AirAsia offers the following essential safety tips:

  1. Be Cautious of Suspicious Job Offers and Visa Requirements
If a recruiter suggests using a tourist visa for employment, proceed with caution. Legitimate job opportunities usually require proper work permits and documentation, as a tourist visa does not authorize employment.
  2. Verify Overseas Job Offers and Recruitment Agencies
Before accepting a job offer abroad, research the recruiting agency thoroughly. Ensure that the agency is registered with the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) and accredited to deploy workers for overseas employment.

By following these safety tips, travelers can protect themselves and help prevent trafficking incidents during their holiday travels.
