MacBook Air delivers the perfect combination of performance and portability for everyone from college students to creative professionals, as well as consumers — and it’s the most popular laptop for business users.

Incredible Performance with M5 for AI and Beyond

At the heart of the new MacBook Air is the Apple M5 chip, designed to deliver powerful performance across everyday productivity tasks, creative workflows, and AI-powered applications.

MacBook Air with M5 features a 10-core CPU with the world’s fastest CPU core, providing faster responsiveness when running multiple applications or handling demanding workloads. The chip also includes up to a 10-core GPU, with each core featuring a Neural Accelerator designed to speed up artificial intelligence processing.

According to Apple, the M5 chip enables up to four times faster AI task performance compared to MacBook Air with M4, and up to 9.5 times faster performance compared to MacBook Air with M1. This improvement allows the MacBook Air to handle advanced AI workloads such as running large language models on device and using Apple Intelligence features across apps and system experiences.

M5 delivers incredible performance for everything users want to tackle, from creative projects to AI tasks — whether using Apple Intelligence or running LLMs on device.

Graphics performance also receives a boost thanks to enhanced shader cores and a third-generation ray tracing engine, making tasks such as gaming and 3D rendering significantly faster.

Additional performance improvements include:

  • Up to 6.9 times faster AI video enhancement performance in Topaz Video compared to MacBook Air with M1, and up to 1.9 times faster than MacBook Air with M4
  • Up to 6.5 times faster 3D rendering with ray tracing in Blender compared to MacBook Air with M1, and up to 1.5 times faster than MacBook Air with M4
  • Up to 2.7 times faster image processing performance in Affinity compared to MacBook Air with M1, and up to 1.5 times faster than MacBook Air with M4

For everyday computing, users can expect up to 50 percent faster web browsing compared to a PC laptop with an Intel Core Ultra X7 processor, while more demanding workloads can see up to two times faster performance.

Memory performance has also improved. The M5 chip supports 153GB/s unified memory bandwidth, which is 28 percent faster than M4, enabling smoother multitasking and faster application launches.

The new MacBook Air also features faster SSD storage, delivering two times faster read and write speeds compared to the previous generation. This allows creators to import large photo libraries faster and helps students and professionals work more efficiently when managing large files or running AI workloads.

For customers upgrading from earlier Apple silicon MacBook Air models or older Intel-based Macs, the new MacBook Air with M5 introduces several meaningful improvements across display quality, battery life, connectivity, and multimedia capabilities.

Stunning Liquid Retina Display

The MacBook Air features a 13.6-inch or 15.3-inch Liquid Retina display with 500 nits of brightness and support for one billion colors. This display technology delivers vivid visuals with sharp detail, making it ideal for watching videos, editing photos, and reading text.

Exceptional Battery Life

The laptop offers up to 18 hours of battery life, allowing users to work, create, or stream content throughout the day without needing to recharge. This represents six additional hours of battery life compared to an Intel-based MacBook Air. Fast charging is also supported.

Thin and Portable Design

Both models feature Apple’s signature thin, lightweight, and fanless aluminum design, ensuring silent operation while maintaining portability.

Customers can choose from four colors:

  • Sky Blue
  • Midnight
  • Starlight
  • Silver

The 13-inch model prioritizes portability, while the 15-inch version offers a larger display for multitasking.

Advanced Camera, Microphones, and Audio

MacBook Air includes a 12MP Center Stage camera with Desk View, enabling more engaging video calls. A three-microphone array enhances voice clarity, while the Spatial Audio sound system with Dolby Atmos creates an immersive listening experience for music and movies.

Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 Connectivity

The laptop introduces the Apple-designed N1 wireless networking chip, enabling Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 for improved wireless speed, reliability, and device connectivity.

Expanded Connectivity

MacBook Air includes two Thunderbolt 4 ports with support for up to two external displays, making it suitable for students and professionals who need additional workspace. The device also supports MagSafe charging, providing a secure and convenient power connection.

The Power of macOS Tahoe

The MacBook Air experience is powered by macOS Tahoe, which introduces new design elements and features that enhance productivity and personalization.

The operating system includes a Liquid Glass design that allows users to customize their Mac with new color options for folders, widgets, and app icons.

Apple Intelligence also introduces new capabilities while maintaining strong privacy protections. These features include Live Translation in Messages, updates to Reminders that automatically categorize actions, and Shortcuts automation that can extract information from PDFs and organize data into spreadsheets.

Continuity features also improve cross-device workflows. The Phone app on Mac allows users to relay cellular calls from a nearby iPhone, while Live Activities through iPhone Mirroring lets users manage notifications and tasks directly from their Mac.

For video calls, the new Edge Light effect provides fill lighting that helps illuminate a user’s face in different lighting conditions.

MacBook Air and the Environment

Apple designed the MacBook Air with sustainability in mind as part of the company’s plan to become carbon neutral across its entire footprint by 2030.

The laptop is made with 55 percent recycled content, including 100 percent recycled aluminum in the enclosure and 100 percent recycled cobalt in the battery. Manufacturing also uses 50 percent renewable electricity across the supply chain, including wind and solar energy.

The MacBook Air is built to meet Apple’s standards for durability, energy efficiency, and safer materials. Its packaging is 100 percent fiber-based, making it easier to recycle.
