Global technology leader Epson has released its inaugural Sustainability Report for Southeast Asia. This milestone publication highlights Epson’s unwavering commitment to making a positive environmental and social impact across the region. The report chronicles Epson’s progress in markets such as the Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Thailand from the last fiscal year covering April 2022 to March 2023 and underscores the company’s pledge to drive continued impact and further positive change throughout the region in the years to come.
At a global scale, Epson is taking action in contributing to all 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to further embrace responsible corporate citizenship. Epson Southeast Asia is concentrating its efforts on five key (SDGs) that resonate most with its business operations and areas where it can make the most significant impact. These include SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
In the Philippines, Epson has made remarkable strides in addressing climate change mitigation by reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across all aspects of its business operations. This includes adopting renewable electricity use, cutting down emissions in production, and minimizing emissions throughout the value chain. In January 2021, Epson’s factory in the Philippines was the first among Epson’s manufacturing factories in Southeast Asia to begin operating at 100% renewable energy ahead of the 2023 global deadline.
Epson Philippines is also deeply committed to supporting local communities and conservation efforts. It is dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace, implementing unconscious bias training for all employees, and promoting equal opportunities. The initiative will be embedded into Epson’s onboarding program for new employees as well as training for hiring managers. The company will also be closely monitoring the impact of this training to ensure its continued efficacy, and will continue to drive programs that aim to foster growth and contributions for every individual.
The company continues to partner with World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), which supports marine conservation projects such as coral reef and mangrove restorations in Southeast Asia. This collaboration emphasizes Epson’s dedication to biodiversity protection and fulfilling its social responsibility. In the Philippines, Epson is working with communities in Palawan to implement the Mangrove Restoration Project to support and restore the area’s biodiversity and marine ecosystem health, while strengthening capacity among the local communities in long-term maintenance and management of their resources and natural environment.
