Grab Philippines has upgraded GrabCar Group Ride to make shared rides more affordable for commuters traveling with friends or colleagues. The updated feature automatically splits the fare among passengers, allowing each rider to save up to 50 percent compared with booking a solo ride.
GrabCar Group Ride allows a host and up to two friends to share one GrabCar booking, with up to three drop-off points along the way. The more passengers join, the more affordable the ride becomes for everyone. The Grab app displays each passenger’s share upfront, so everyone knows how much they need to pay before the trip.
The automatic fare-splitting feature also removes the need to calculate individual contributions after the ride. Instead of asking “magkano share ko?” once the trip ends, passengers can see their respective shares in advance.
For commuters who regularly travel together, GrabCar Group Ride offers additional convenience. Regular ride companions can be saved as a group, along with frequently used pickup and drop-off locations. These saved details allow passengers to book repeat rides in just a few taps.
The feature is suited to officemates heading in the same direction after work and friends traveling home together after a night out. By sharing one booking, passengers can split transportation costs while making group travel more convenient.
A throwback to the shampoo sachet jingle era
To promote the upgraded GrabCar Group Ride feature, Grab Philippines released an online video inspired by the catchy shampoo jingles popular among Filipinos in the 2000s. The campaign uses nostalgia to introduce commuters to the shared ride feature and explain how easy it is to book.
The campaign presents the service as the “GrabCar 3-in-1,” a concept built around three passengers sharing one booking. It draws a comparison with the 3-in-1 shampoo sachet, which became a household staple. The campaign connects the familiar product concept with the savings passengers can get by sharing a ride.
The message is straightforward. Just as the sachet offers more for less, traveling with friends through GrabCar Group Ride allows passengers to share costs while enjoying the company of their companions on the way home.
Grab Philippines Country Marketing Head Bea Bravo explained how the feature reflects the everyday habits of Filipino commuters and the importance of making shared travel more accessible.
“Filipino commuters are resourceful. They’re always finding smarter ways to make every trip with friends or colleagues more efficient and more affordable. As a committed partner to every commuter, Grab makes sure our platform keeps up with these everyday habits. ‘Hati-hati’ has always been part of how we move together, and it’s about more than splitting costs. It’s about looking out for one another. With GrabCar Group Ride, we’re building on that spirit so that getting around together becomes the easier, more attainable choice for more Filipinos,” said Grab Philippines Country Marketing Head Bea Bravo.
The statement highlights Grab’s focus on shared commuting and the Filipino practice of splitting expenses when traveling with friends or colleagues. With automatic fare splitting, GrabCar Group Ride makes it easier for passengers to share transportation costs and see each person’s contribution before the trip.
How to book a GrabCar Group Ride
Booking a GrabCar Group Ride allows one host to invite up to two friends to share a single GrabCar booking. The feature supports up to three drop-off points, allowing passengers to enter their individual destinations.
The booking process involves the following steps:
- Open the Grab app, tap GrabCar, then select Group Ride.
- Enter your pickup point and drop-off.
- Share the invite link with up to two friends.
- Your friends add their own drop-off points.
- Confirm the booking. The fare is split automatically, with each rider saving up to 50 percent.
Once the booking is confirmed, the passengers share one GrabCar, and the fare is automatically divided among them. Each rider can see their share upfront, while the multiple drop-off points accommodate passengers traveling to different destinations.
For regular commuting groups, saving ride companions and frequently used pickup and drop-off locations can make repeat bookings quicker. This is particularly useful for officemates who share similar routes or friends who regularly travel home together.
GrabCar Group Ride combines shared bookings, multiple drop-off points, and automatic fare splitting in one feature. By allowing up to three passengers to share a ride, the service gives commuters an option to reduce their individual transportation costs compared with booking a solo ride.
The GrabCar Group Ride feature is now available in all GrabCar cities nationwide.
