Oh, and did I mention that you can also ride a crystal kayak while in the pool? Yes, in this urban setting—imagine that. I didn’t get to try it during my recent stay, but it’s definitely on my list when I go back soon.

Our Room

Our stay at the 1-Bedroom Executive Suite at Oakwood Makati, located within l’M Hotel, was both comfortable and functional. Spanning a spacious 57 square meters, the suite is crafted for both comfort and style. This thoughtfully designed space features a bedroom seamlessly connected to an adjoining kitchen, living area, and dining space, offering an effortless blend of elegance and functionality.

A unique swiveling panel between the kitchen and living room adds a modular touch, allowing for personalized space configuration to suit your stay. Indulge in modern amenities like a 49-inch LED TV and a fully equipped kitchenette with cooking essentials. The luxurious bathroom, complete with a soaking bathtub and a rain shower, provides an ideal retreat after a busy day. This suite is perfect for solo travelers or couples.

Upon entering the room, we were greeted by a fresh room scent that immediately stood out. We’ve stayed in countless hotel rooms over the years, and while most of them are scent-neutral, this was the first time we genuinely noticed a refreshing fragrance that added to the overall experience. It’s a small touch, but one that made a lasting impression. We also appreciated the towel swan art placed on the bed, another thoughtful gesture. The TV was already on, playing an aquarium channel, which added a calming, almost spa-like feel to the space.

The living and dining area is equipped with a flat-screen television with cable channels, a two-seater sofa, a coffee table, one chair, and a four-seater dining table.

A well-equipped kitchenette and dining area make this suite especially practical for longer stays, with everything you need to prepare and enjoy meals together. A large refrigerator and a Nespresso coffee maker made it easy to cook and enjoy meals at our convenience. The suite is also stocked with chinaware, glassware, and cutlery—ideal for serving a family-style meal or entertaining guests. The four-seater dining table was perfect for enjoying meals while engaging in conversation. Afterward, we could unwind on the comfortable sofa in the living area, where we streamed movies over the suite’s high-speed Wi-Fi connection. For added convenience, the suite comes with a washing machine, an especially unique feature for long stays, allowing us to easily refresh our clothes. Whether for work or leisure, this suite offered everything we needed.

The kitchenette is fully stocked with essentials like a cooker hob and hood, crockery and glassware, an electric kettle, a bread toaster, and a regular-sized refrigerator. Oakwood Makati also supports Makati City’s ordinance on reducing single-use plastics by replacing bottled water with reusable pitchers. Water dispensers are located in the corridor for convenient refills, something we’ve noticed in more hotels lately.

In the bedroom, you’ll find a king-size bed with pillows that are so soft and comfortable, they’ll make you want to stay in bed all day. It was one of the highlights of our stay. We genuinely looked forward to lounging or getting a good night’s sleep. The room also features a spacious work desk paired with a supportive desk chair, perfect for those working remotely or staying for an extended period. As someone who travels with both a laptop and an external monitor, I was pleasantly surprised by how much room the desk offered. I actually managed to catch up on several pending articles during our stay, which made the space feel both restful and productive at the same time. Other room features include an armchair, telephone, bedside table, alarm clock, steam iron and ironing board, and an electronic safe.

The bathroom also left a strong impression. The black marble tiles give the space a polished, modern feel, and it’s more spacious than expected. It comes with a bathtub and standing shower, a hair dryer, a full set of towels, bathrobes and slippers, bath amenities, and even a weighing scale. That was a surprising inclusion we rarely see in hotel rooms.

The only thing missing for us was a full-length mirror, which is commonly found in most hotel rooms. Still, the suite delivered on comfort, layout, and thoughtful details. With its smart design, practical amenities, and welcoming touches, it’s well-suited for long-term stays or even for hosting an intimate gathering or celebration.

Culinary Delights at I’M Hotel

Dining at I’M Hotel is more than just a meal. With thoughtfully curated restaurants and rooftop bars, your taste buds are in for a treat. At the heart of the hotel’s dining scene is Osteria M, a restaurant that offers a refined fusion of Filipino and Italian cuisine. Handmade pasta and Italian breads, crafted with premium locally sourced ingredients, promise freshness and flavor in every bite. Clearly, sustainability is at the core of the hotel’s philosophy. Osteria M prioritizes premium, locally sourced ingredients that support local farmers and producers while minimizing their environmental footprint.

A Taste of Osteria M

We got to enjoy Osteria M’s four-course set meal during our visit. For starters, we had the Ube Focaccia Bruschetta, a traditional bruschetta paired with a unique twist. The ube focaccia was soft, pillowy, and beautifully purple, with just the right touch of sweetness and savory to balance the flavors. The topping of wrapped stracciatella and burrata cream cheese made it indulgent but not overwhelming. It’s one of those appetizers that instantly stand out for both presentation and taste.

For salad, we had the Mixed Seasonal Greens with Fresh Prawns and Croutons with a choice of cherry vinaigrette. It was light, refreshing, and nicely complemented the richness of the appetizer. All I can say is it’s really good.

For the main course, you can choose between pasta or pizza. I went for the Smoked Salmon and Pesto Cream Pasta. This dish instantly became my favorite from the menu. The smoked salmon was rich and flavorful, and the basil pesto cream brought it all together with a nice herby depth. I’ll definitely come back for this.

To end our meal, we had Osteria M’s best-seller dessert, the Tiramisu. Just like what the staff said, it is divine. If you like desserts that taste just right and not too sweet, this one is for you. The flavors of Arabica coffee, homemade Italian sponge fingers, vanilla, and mousse all blended perfectly.

As we enjoyed our dinner, live soulful music played in the background, making the whole dining experience even more pleasant. It was a relaxing and tasteful evening, perfect for slow conversations and unwinding after a long day.

Late-Night Eats and Drinks at Antidote Bar

Later that night, my sister and niece came to visit. Since kids are not allowed at the rooftop bar, my niece stayed in the room while my sister and I went up to Antidote Bar for some late-night cravings. We’ve actually heard of Antidote Bar before. Friends had been raving about its amazing 360-degree view of the Makati skyline and the iconic jellyfish tank. It’s known as one of the most popular rooftop bars in the city, and now we know why.

We ordered three pizzas to share: the Spinach and Artichoke Pizza with roasted artichoke, spinach, mozzarella, parmesan, and cheddar cheese; the Margherita Pizza with basil, Neapolitan sauce, mozzarella, and cheddar cheese; and the Midnight Breakfast Pizza topped with cured and pineapple caramelized ham, free-range egg, and a tomato base. Each pizza had a crispy crust with generous toppings, flavorful cheese, and was just the right size to satisfy our midnight cravings. They were comforting and flavorful, ideal for sharing over good conversation.

For drinks, I had the Basilica, a refreshing mix of Stolichnaya, watermelon, lemon juice, simple syrup, and basil leaves. My sister ordered a Cosmopolitan made with vodka, Cointreau, lime syrup, and cranberry juice. Both cocktails were balanced and easy to enjoy, especially with the laid-back ambiance and great skyline view.

Since we were staying at the hotel, I had time before my scheduled massage to enjoy the wellness suites. I started with a relaxing soak in the heated onsen pools, followed by a session in the steam and sauna rooms, and then took a shower before changing into the yukata (robe) provided for guests. I opted for the 90-minute I’M Onsen Spa Signature Massage, a therapeutic and custom-designed treatment exclusive to I’M Onsen Spa. Before the massage began, I was asked if I preferred a male or female therapist. Since I like firm pressure, I requested a male therapist. The massage was exceptional, far better than many other hotel spas I’ve tried from high-end resorts to regular city hotels. The pressure was exactly what I needed, and the overall technique was impressive.

What really sets this experience apart was the access to a VIP room with a heated Jacuzzi, which I used right after the massage. It was the perfect way to unwind and rinse off the oil, ending the session on an even more relaxing note. This whole experience alone is reason enough to return to I’M Hotel. It offers a staycation centered on rejuvenation, and the spa is a must-try for anyone booking a stay.

I was curious to try it myself, but unfortunately, it had just ended by the time we checked in.

The Mermaid Pool is very Instagrammable if you ask me. We even got to take some photos underwater. The vibe is relaxed and tropical, perfect for guests looking to sunbathe, people-watch, or snap a few aesthetic poolside photos. The birdcage cabanas are a perfect spot to just lounge and read a book or listen to music and just chill.

For those who want to stay on top of their fitness goals, the hotel also features a fully equipped 24-hour fitness center located on a high floor. Still, we highly recommend availing of the breakfast-included packages. Their breakfast selection is really good and sulit. Definitely worth it.

This means you can enjoy unlimited use of the mineral-rich onsen pools, steam rooms, and saunas during your visit. You also get access to the hotel’s fully equipped gym and the Instagrammable acrylic-bottom infinity pool.
