More Marikeños are turning to bicycles for mobility, with the number of cyclists recorded in Marikina City surging by 157 percent to 29,245 this year from 11,363 in 2025, according to the Bike Count conducted by the Marikina City Bikeways Office.
The Bike Count aims to measure cycling activity and gather data to help improve the city’s active mobility network. The latest count recorded an increase of 17,882 cyclists in just one year, showing a significant rise in the number of people recorded using bicycles for mobility in Marikina City.
In a broader seven-day monitoring period, the Marikina City Bikeways Office recorded 67,428 cyclists. The figure reflects the city government’s continued efforts to promote safer and more accessible transportation.
“Ang mga numerong ito ay positibong indikasyon na nagbubunga ang ating mga pagkilos at mga programa na nagsusulong ng mas ligtas at mayors na pagbibisikleta,” Mayor Maan Teodoro said.
“Asahan na ng mga Marikeño na lalo pa nating pagtitibayin ang mga programa at pasilidad para sa mas ligtas at maayos na pagbibisikleta sa ating lungsod,” she added.
The increase in the number of cyclists comes as the local government continues implementing programs and maintaining facilities that support biking in Marikina City. The Bike Count provides data on cycling activity that can help guide efforts to improve the city’s active mobility network.



Marikina Bikeways Office Maintains Bike Lanes
Under Teodoro’s watch, the Marikina Bikeways Office regularly cleans and maintains bike lanes across the city. Its maintenance work includes removing leaves, moss, and other obstructions to help keep cycling routes safe and comfortable.
The continued maintenance of bike lanes forms part of the local government’s efforts to support safer cycling routes and more accessible transportation in Marikina City.

Marikina Active Transport Park Under Construction
The local government is also constructing the Marikina Active Transport Park in Barangay Marikina Heights.
The facility will feature dedicated spaces for bicycles and BMX bikes, skateboards, roller skates, rollerblades, and non-motorized scooters. These spaces will accommodate different forms of non-motorized transportation.
The Marikina Active Transport Park will also serve as an end-of-trip facility for bikers. It will include restrooms and designated areas for stalls, as well as spaces for various activities.
The construction of the facility forms part of the local government’s continued programs and facilities supporting biking and active mobility in Marikina City.
The park will complement the city’s existing efforts to maintain cycling routes. The Marikina Bikeways Office regularly cleans bike lanes and removes leaves, moss, and other obstructions to help keep routes safe and comfortable for cyclists.
The city government’s efforts include both the maintenance of bike lanes and the development of facilities intended for people using bicycles and other forms of non-motorized transportation.

Bike Racks to Support Student Cyclists
The local government is also installing bike racks in schools to provide organized and accessible parking for students who ride bicycles to school.

Sa ilalim ng pamumuno ni Teodoro, regular na nililinis at pinananatili ng Marikina Bikeways Office ang mga bike lane, kabilang ang pag-aalis ng mga dahon, lumot, at iba pang sagabal upang mapanatiling ligtas at maayos ang mga ruta ng mga nagbibisikleta.
Ang regular na paglilinis at pagpapanatili ng mga bike lane ay bahagi ng mga hakbang ng lokal na pamahalaan upang suportahan ang mas ligtas na pagbibisikleta at mas accessible na transportasyon sa Marikina City.
Nagtatayo rin ang lokal na pamahalaan ng Marikina Active Transport Park sa Barangay Marikina Heights, na magkakaroon ng mga nakalaang espasyo para sa mga bisikleta at BMX, skateboard, roller skate, rollerblade, at non-motorized scooter.
