The rise of remote work has fueled a surge in the popularity of portable monitors. But why should you invest in one, and what makes a good portable monitor? Let’s delve into these questions and explore the world of portable displays.
Portable monitors offer a plethora of advantages that enhance productivity and versatility, whether you’re working remotely, enjoying entertainment, or pursuing creative endeavors.
Philips Monitors sent us their Philips business 16B1P3300 portable monitor. It is a 15.6-inch IPS panel with an FHD resolution (1920 x 1080) and a 75Hz refresh rate packed in a solid chassis with a multi-angle stand. Here is our full review of another amazing display from Philips Monitors.
The Philips 16B1P3300 portable monitor comes in a brown box with the brand logo on the left side of the box and feature specifications printed on both sides of the box.
Inside is a styrofoam package that serves as a cushion to the monitor, a power adapter, a micro HDMI to HDMI, and a USB-C to C cable. They also included a quick start guide to help you set up your portable monitor. It also comes with a protective case so you can easily carry your portable monitor when you travel.
Why Invest in a Portable Monitor?
Portable monitors offer a plethora of advantages that enhance productivity and versatility, whether you’re working remotely, enjoying entertainment, or even playing games on your gaming consoles especially when you often travel. Personally, one main reason why I believe having a portable monitor is a good investment is that as someone who travels a lot I don’t have the luxury of bringing my desk monitor when I travel, and when I travel I usually still publish content on my laptop and having a portable monitor makes me productive and work faster.
The Philips 16B1P3300 portable monitor features a 15.6-inch anti-glare IPS LCD panel, providing a 16:9 Full HD resolution (1920 x 1080) along with 250 nits brightness. It covers the NTSC color gamut and is contained within an exceptionally slim and lightweight 15.6-inch package, weighing less than 2 lbs. Additionally, it boasts a versatile stand that can be adjusted from 0 to 90 degrees, allowing for comfortable viewing at various angles.
The portable monitor’s OSD buttons are inconveniently positioned on the back panel, making adjustments cumbersome. Additionally, the buttons are also very small and difficult to press, particularly for individuals with larger fingers.
As the name implies, this display is designed for portability, allowing you to easily fit it into your backpack and take it with you wherever you go, unlike traditional desktop monitors. To safeguard the monitor, it comes with a protective case made from felt material, offering effective protection. However, it’s worth noting that the protective case lacks a dedicated pouch for adapters and wires, so you may need to buy a separate pouch for these accessories.
USB-C for simplified connections
Another notable feature of this portable monitor is its simplicity in connectivity, needing only a single cable to link with your device. However, it is important to ensure that your device is compatible with this type of portable monitor. In our test, we connected the Philips portable monitor to the ASUS Zenbook 14, which supports Thunderbolt, allowing us to use the portable monitor without an additional adapter. You simply connect a single USB-C to C cable from your device to the portable monitor, providing both power and video signal instantly. However, in certain situations, you may still require the included adapter from the package.
Philips prioritized portability when designing the Philips 16B1P3300 portable monitor. The monitor’s versatile reversible USB Type-C port allows for easy connection to phones, laptops, and computers, simplifying content sharing and presentations. Additionally, the monitor’s micro-HDMI 1.4 port enables seamless connection to game consoles.
The Philips 16B1P3300 Portable Monitor offers a balance of portability and performance. While its color coverage may not be as expansive as some other monitors, it’s still adequate for everyday tasks like writing, editing, spreadsheet work, and web browsing.
Regarding color accuracy and brightness, I personally don’t place too much emphasis on these factors for portable monitors. This is because portable monitors are designed to be low-powered and energy-efficient, allowing you to power them using a single cable from your device. This convenience outweighs the need for exceptional color accuracy and brightness in most portable usage scenarios.
It also offers excellent viewing angles, with minimal reduction in light quality even at extreme angles. Additionally, the anti-reflective coating effectively prevents stray reflections.
In essence, the Philips 16B1P3300 Portable Monitor strikes a commendable balance between portability and performance, making it a suitable choice for users who prioritize convenience and versatility without compromising on essential functionalities.
As a content creator, the Philips 16B1P3300 seamlessly integrated into my workflow, proving to be an invaluable asset. I primarily utilize the portable monitor to manage my email correspondence while simultaneously crafting engaging content on WordPress.
I was even able to play Hogwarts Legacy on my PlayStation using the Philips portable monitor. However, since the monitor lacks built-in speakers, I had to use my gaming headphones for audio. Nevertheless, what matters to me is having a display that serves both for work and gaming on my console, especially when I’m traveling out of town.
