The realme C55 is the first Android phone with a dynamic notch, a feature that distinguishes it from its competitors in the entry-level phone market. This new design feature allows for a higher screen-to-body ratio, resulting in a more immersive viewing experience.

We’re fortunate enough to get our hands on an early unit of the new realme C55 in Sunshower color variant and here’s our full review on yet again, another amazing product from realme.

Unboxing/Accessories

The realme C55 comes with the company’s signature bright yellow packaging with the big “C55” model printed on the front of the box and a small realme logo at the lower portion of the box.

What’s inside the box?

Inside the box, you will find the realme C55 handset, 33W SuperVOOC power adapter, USB Type-A to USB Type-C data/charging cable, TPU dark translucent case for protection, paper documentation, and the SIM ejection tool are all included in the box. As expected, the realme C55 doesn’t come with earphones; you must purchase them separately.

Build Quality/Design

The realme C55 has a 6.72″ FullHD+ 90Hz LCD with a 90Hz screen refresh rate and a peak brightness of 680 nits, as well as a centered punch hole for the 8MP selfie camera and supports the Mini Capsule feature, that shows the battery charging status, steps counter, low battery alerts, and other information.

On the right side of the realme C55, is where you will find the volume rocker and the side-mounted fingerprint scanner that ingeniously fuses the power button and fingerprint recognition modules. The SIM tray, which holds two Nano SIM cards and a memory card slot is positioned on the left side. The bottom boasts a 3.5mm jack along with a USB Type-C port and the loudspeaker grille.

The SIM tray supports 2x nano SIM and 1x microSD card slot.
While the volume rocker and power button that also doubles as a fingerprint scanner are on the right side.
The bottom part of the phone has a 3.3mm audio jack, microphone, USB Type-C port, and speaker grille.

On top of the display is a punch-hole which houses the 8MP AI Selfie front camera. The Dynamic Island-like section displays a pill-shaped animation that displays your charging status, step counter, low battery alerts, and other information. Powering this device is a massive 5,000mAh, which is aided by a 33W SuperVOOC power adapter.

Overall, the new realme C55 is a great value for money in the entry-level smartphone. The phone is strong enough to handle multitasking as well as some gaming. In fact, I’ve been playing Call of Duty on this phone for two weeks and I’m impressed with how well it performs.

Mini Capsule

The realme C55 features Android’s first Mini Capsule wrapped around the punch-hole of the selfie camera. That displays low battery alerts, the phone’s charging status, and data consumption. It will also show you your step count and walking distance for the day. However, data usage and step count won’t be available out of the box and will arrive later through an update. Overall, the mini capsule feature provides users with convenient and useful notifications, making it stand out from other Android smartphones available in the market today.

Camera

The realme C55 features a 64-megapixel Al main camera with dual 2-megapixel depth sensors that generate amazing photographs. Its 64-megapixel camera provides greater information and produces very excellent shots even at night.

It has a AI-powered dual camera setup featuring a 64-megapixel main camera with dual 2-megapixel depth sensors.

The selfie camera is housed in a little punch-hole on the new realme C55. It appears to be a standard Android handset, but its software function makes it look like the latest iPhone models. The Dynamic Island-like section displays a pill-shaped animation that displays your charging status, step counter, low battery alerts, and other information.

The camera’s performance in the daytime is impressive. The 64MP sensor captures clear and detailed images with vibrant colors.

In low-light situations, the primary camera appears to be doing quite well. The examples below are reasonably crisp with a considerable amount of detail, strong contrast, and bright colors, with noise noticeable only in the image’s darker areas.

Performance

The realme C55 is equipped with a MediaTek Helio G88 octa-core processor and comes in three RAM variants: 4GB, 6GB, and 8GB, ensuring smooth multitasking across a range of user needs. It runs on Android 13 and is backed by a robust 5000mAh battery, providing long-lasting performance. Additionally, the device supports Super VOOC rapid charging for faster power-ups.

The phone has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner for security, although the scanner sometimes requires few attempts to detect the fingerprint. As for the audio, It has an UltraBoom Speaker with a maximum volume level of 200%. Even at this level of volume, the sound quality is decent. Apps are generally quick to load, and with the 90Hz refresh rate scrolling through menus feels smooth.

Playing Call of Duty on the new realme C55

The Realme C55 is powered by the most recent Realme UI 4.0, which is based on Android 13. However, the custom Android skin is similar to previous iterations in terms of bloatware and ads.

Graphically demanding games like PUBG, Call of Duty, and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang performed smoothly and without glitches. As a matter of fact, I’ve been using the realme C55 for over two weeks now, playing Call of Duty and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.

As soon as we launch the game, the Game Engine is activated for an exceptional gaming experience.
There are three modes available – Low Power Mode, Balanced Mode, Pro Game Mode

We also tried the new game Ragnarok Origin on this device and it also worked smoothly. In fact, I actually started to enjoy playing this game on this device.

Battery

The realme C55 is equipped with a 5,000mAh battery that can easily last for one full day with moderate to heavy usage. The phone also draws power from a 33W SUPERVOOC Charger that is capable of refueling the battery from 0% to 100% in about 65 minutes.

Verdict

If you want a sleek gadget with good performance at a reasonable price, the realme C55 is the smartphone for you. In terms of its camera, the realme c55 can produce photographs with accurate colors with good contrast. The mini capsule feature looks really interesting and has the potential to be a game-changer. I would however love to see more notifications implemented via the mini capsule.

Additionally, the battery life is very good, which makes it easy to recommend for those who are frequently on the go.
