Huawei launched the new Huawei P40 series over two months ago alongside their latest wearable device, the Huawei GT 2e. The “e” model represents the energy, mentality and vitality of today’s youth. So it’s very clear that the “e” model is designed for a much younger demographic, making it the ideal companion for young users.
The Huawei GT 2e features a new TPU strap that gives it a more athletic look. The strap is designed with black accented holes with the central row acting as the fixing point for the buckle that may be easily adjusted to fit any wrist. Which is perfect for people with small wrists like me without the need to adjust the strap. It also comes in four colourways, the Mint Green, Icy White, Graphite Black and Lava Red.
Huawei also replaced the two crown button controls (seen on the previous models GT and GT2) on the side. Instead, the new GT 2e has sleek rectangular buttons to the side of the 46mm case. The body is made with 316L grade stainless steel giving it a sharper and minimalist finish than its predecessor.
Huawei’s smartwatch GT series all have awesome looking displays. It offers vibrant colors and has sharp details. It is definitely one of the best screens we’ve seen on a smartwatch. It has a bright 1.39-inch AMOLED HD touch display with a crisp 454 x 454 resolution at 326 ppi.
It also comes with a wide range of stylish, functional and interactive watch faces to choose from. In addition, Huawei is also developing a rich watch face market, which will include new custom and motion watch faces. Making it the perfect companion for young techies who wish to look unique and hip at all times.
The GT 2e smartwatch is equipped with Huawei’s proprietary Kirin A1 chip which ensures high performance and low power consumption. It’s dual-chip design and power saving algorithm 2.0 optimizes the power consumption giving you a longer lasting battery life of up to 14 days on a single charge.
Huawei has also included 100 workout modes (85 custom workout modes and 15 professional workout modes) to help you track everything from running to various exercises. It also utilises cutting-edge technology that provides precise and real-time tracking data for 15 professional sports which includes climbing, running, swimming and cycling. It also supports GPS and GLONASS positioning systems with route tracking during outdoor workouts. Plus, you can take it for a swim with 5 ATM water resistance up to 50 meters.
The Huawei GT 2e makes a great everyday activity tracker that can constantly monitor your heart rate and measure the quality of your sleep if you wear it at night. Aside from that, one of the newest features of the Huawei GT 2e is its ability to measure the oxygen saturation levels on your blood. Basically, SpO2 or blood oxygen saturation is a measure of how much oxygen is present in the blood flowing through your body.
The new GT 2e allows you to use Bluetooth earphones to play music directly from the watch. It has 4 GB of storage that can hold approximately 500 MP3 songs. It is also capable of controlling music on your smartphone that is connected to other Bluetooth enabled devices like your wireless speakers or even your google home device.
Verdict
Huawei continues to deliver one of the finest wearable fitness trackers in the market at a more affordable price. It is a great exercise companion for most workout types. I’m very impressed with the battery that charges within 2 hours and gets up to 14 days battery life. Overall, the new Huawei Watch GT 2e is a great fitness tracking device especially for the price.
