Yield Guild Games (YGG) Pilipinas, the Philippines’ leading web3 gaming community, reaches the peak of its months-long journey with the grand finale of the YGG Pilipinas Roadtrip in Manila on July 14, 2024, at Ayala Malls TriNoma, Quezon City. This marks the year-long initiative’s exciting conclusion, bringing web3 gaming directly to Filipinos nationwide.
A Vibrant Celebration of Web3 Gaming and Filipino Culture
The YGG Pilipinas Roadtrip has been a vibrant celebration of both web3 gaming and regional Filipino culture. With over 5,000 attendees across its stops in Batangas, Baguio, Cebu, Davao and Bacolod, the Roadtrip allowed local communities to showcase their unique identities.
At the Roadtrip’s kickoff in Batangas, the local government unit (LGU) expressed their support in alignment with Region IV’s current push for economic development by adopting new technologies. In Baguio, attendees gathered at the historic Camp John Hay and were served local delicacies such as strawberry taho. Bacolod’s event saw the colorful performances of MassKara Dancers, while in Cebu, attendees were treated to a festive Sinulog dance presentation. In Davao, the cosplay community made their presence felt with over 80 cosplayers strutting the event grounds decked out in intricate costumes representing their fandoms.
One of the Roadtrip’s most important partners was the Philippines’ Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), whose regional offices were mobilized over the past legs of the Roadtrip. LGUs also contributed to each leg, including Mataas na Kahoy, Batangas mayor Janet Magpantay Ilagan, who took the time to thank YGG Pilipinas and encourage local youths to seize the opportunity at hand in a heartfelt speech. The Roadtrip also featured international collaborators, with Mighty Bear Games CEO Simon Davis flying in from Singapore, Immutable Executive Producer Jill Keyshap and Game Product Manager Martha Schoppa arriving from Australia, and other international speakers speaking at the Cebu leg.
With the Roadtrip’s final stop set to take place in the nation’s capital, the event is primed to make its biggest splash yet. At the Manila leg of the YGG Pilipinas Roadtrip, game demonstrations and live matches for web3 games such as Parallel, My Pet Hooligan, and Petopia will be taking the spotlight, as well as a preview of BreederDAO’s upcoming game Creatorverse. The event will be attended by prominent web3 and gaming leaders, including:
- YellowPanther: Forbes Web3 Gaming Creator of the Year, Mocaverse Ambassador, founder of 4,4 and co-founder of GamingGrid
- KaizerGaming88: Co-founder of GamingGrid and Gaming Ecosystem Lead at Aethir Cloud
- Disi: YGG Esports Captain, Parallel leaderboard mainstay, mentor and content creator
- spamandrice: Axie Infinity champion, Axie Infinity Superquests mentor, YGG Esports all-star at the Axie Infinity Classic Guild Wars Southeast Asia 2024 Champions, Axie Open Manila Championship 2022 winner, Axie Origins 2022 World Championship runner-up
Attendees will be able to explore the various booths set up within the event’s Experience Zone to learn more about event sponsors Coins.ph, BreederDAO and JamboPhone. These booths will feature exciting giveaways such as JamboPhones, NFTs and web3 in-game assets, shirts, keychains and tumblers. Talks and workshops organized by YGG Pilipinas’ Web3 Metaversity Program will be offered to give newcomers an introduction to all things web3. Alongside the game demos, giveaways and booths, the Manila leg will also feature a live performance from local rock band Lola Amour. While exploring the event grounds, attendees will be able to sing along live to the band’s viral hit, “Raining in Manila.” The Manila leg is also slated to hold the Roadtrip’s biggest cosplay competition so far, with a PHP 100,000 prize pool ready for the day’s best cosplayers to claim.
“From the very start, our mission has been to democratize access to the wealth of opportunities in web3 to Filipinos all over the country. After reaching out to the growing web3 communities in Batangas, Baguio, Cebu, Davao and Bacolod over the past months, YGG Pilipinas is excited to host the Roadtrip’s final chapter in the nation’s capital,” said YGG Pilipinas Country Head Mench Dizon. “We’re honored to welcome community members old and new to the last leg of the incredible journey we’ve had thus far.”
Adding to the day’s activities, YGG Pilipinas is partnering with the virtual activations company Edison to provide the entire YGG community with a way to participate in the day’s festivities remotely by replicating it in the metaverse. While the Manila leg goes on in person, attendees will be able to explore the event grounds virtually via Edison’s metaverse platform.
This virtual recreation of the Manila leg is set to come equipped with interactive booths, game demos, and networking opportunities. Virtual attendees will also have the chance to progress through a series of quests to earn rewards and prizes just like in-person attendees. Aside from making the Manila leg as inclusive as possible, YGG Pilipinas is looking forward to how this virtual iteration of the Roadtrip will give attendees the chance to network and even start guilds of their own.
Although this marks the end of the YGG Pilipinas Roadtrip, the nation’s journey into web3 is only just beginning. With events such as the YGG Play Summit on November 18-22, 2024, YGG Pilipinas still has a fruitful year of web3 onboarding initiatives ahead of it.
