AirAsia Philippines advises its guests who are on a hunt for affordable flights to take extra precautions, especially in transacting with individuals on social media who allegedly represent the brand.
Multiple reports reached AirAsia Philippines about several Facebook groups and individuals claiming to represent the brand, even using it for their unofficial dealings offering cheap flights, tour packages, and other tourism-related products. Some Facebook groups using AirAsia’s name are also involved in promoting suspicious online transactions, such as job offerings which led to Phishing and other forms of online scams.
The World’s Best Low-Cost Airline reminds the public that the purchase of tickets, offering of promos, and other ancillary products can only be made through the airasia Superapp, its website, and AirAsia’s more than 850 travel agency partners throughout the country.
“As the pioneer in low-cost air travel and an integrated digital travel and leisure platform, we want to educate and safeguard our guests from scams and other forms of online fraud, especially since most transactions are at their fingertips,” AirAsia Philippines Communications and Public Affairs Country Head First Officer Steve Dailisan shares.
According to a Q4 2022 study by Statista, an online data gathering platform, 51% of 1,005 polled Filipinos claimed to have been victims of Phishing – a form of fraud that collects personal information, credit card numbers, and passwords. 33%, on the other hand, were victims of third-party seller scams on legitimate online retail websites. The Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group noted that cyber crime cases increased to 4,104 from January to June 2023.
“We would like to remind our guests that personal information may be collected only through airasia.com or airasia Superapp. The moment a group or an individual allegedly representing our brand solicits your personal information or asks for money, drop the transaction immediately and report them to proper authorities,” Dailisan added.
