HONOR has always been known for its feature-rich smartphones at affordable prices. After the great success of the HONOR 90 5G, which sold out in just one week, HONOR Philippines is now set to launch another budget-friendly marvel, the HONOR 90 Lite 5G. This smartphone promises to offer flagship-level features and specifications, and we can’t wait to see what it has to offer.
We’re fortunate enough to get our hands on an early unit of the new HONOR 90 Lite 5G in Midnight Black color variant and here is our unboxing and initial impressions of yet again, another amazing smartphone from HONOR.
Unboxing/Accessories
The HONOR 90 Lite 5G arrived with the familiar white box with the model name printed in metallic silver. Inside the box, you will find the HONOR 90 Lite 5G handset, HONOR SuperCharge charger, USB Type-A to USB Type-C data/charging cable, TPU Protective case for protection, paper documentation, and the SIM ejector tool.
It’s really nice to see that HONOR was able to include a USB-C to 3.5 mm headphone jack adapter that lets you connect devices that use a standard 3.5 mm audio plug.
Build Quality/Design
The HONOR 90 Lite 5G has a thin and light build that makes it comfortable to hold. While it’s relatively slim, measuring 7.48mm thick, it doesn’t feel as slender and light as the more expensive HONOR 90 5G because it doesn’t have curved edges on the back and front. However, it is still lightweight, at only 179 grams.
The Honor 90 Lite comes in Midnight Black and Cyan Lake variants, and the Midnight Black variant we got, has a matte finish with a subtle shimmer. It also has a unique cropped-circle camera bump at the back called Dual Ring Camera Design Inspired by Fine Jewelry.
On the right side of the HONOR 90 Lite 5G, is where you will find the volume rocker and the side-mounted fingerprint scanner that ingeniously fuses the power button and fingerprint recognition modules. The SIM tray, which holds two Nano SIM cards is positioned on the left side. The bottom boasts the mic, a USB Type-C port, and the loudspeaker grille.
Camera
The HONOR 90 Lite 5G features a high-resolution 100-megapixel main camera with an f/1.9 aperture. It’s accompanied by a 5-megapixel ultra-wide camera, a 2-megapixel macro camera, and a 2-megapixel depth camera.
The main camera on the HONOR 90 Lite 5G captures photos at 25 megapixels by default. HONOR uses a clever technique of combining four on-sensor pixels into one in the final image. This results in image sizes ranging from 3MB to 8MB for each photo, making excellent use of the HONOR 90 Lite’s ample storage capacity. The default mode produces excellent images with lots of detail. The phone captures shots with impressive clarity. However, if you’re aiming for even better results, you can always select the Hi-Res mode, which leverages the 100-megapixel camera. This is perfect if you plan to print the image in a larger format.
