If you are looking for a perfect handheld tablet that can easily fit in the palm of your hand while providing you hours of entertainment like day to day browsing, casual gaming, reading your favorite ebooks and binge-watching your favorite Netflix series, the Huawei MatePad T8 is what you need.

The new Huawei MatePad T8 has an 8-inch HD display, an Octa-Core MediaTek MT8768 processor and is equipped with IMG GE8320 650 MHz GPU for graphics. It also comes with 2GB RAM and a 16GB or 32GB expandable storage via microSD card. The MatePad T8 has two built in cameras, a 5MP primary and a 2MP front-facing camera. It runs on EMUI 10.0.1 based on Android 10 with HMS, and a 5,100mAh battery.

Unboxing/Accessories

The Huawei MatePad T8 arrived with the familiar white box that has the Huawei logo and the AppGallery icon on the lower part of the box. This means that Huawei is actively promoting its own app store as a replacement for Google Play.

Inside the Box

Inside the box you will find the Huawei MatePad T8, 5V/1A USB wall charger, USB-A to micro USB data/charging cable, SIM ejector pin, quick start guide and the warranty card.

Build Quality/Design

The tablet uses a familiar construction at this price point. The materials used are plastic both on its back and frame which feels quite durable. In front, you’ll find the glass 8-inch LCD screen w/ HD 1280 x 800 resolution at 189 ppi.

They did not mention any Gorilla Glass protection in front so it’s better to put a screen protector to prevent getting any scratches on the screen.

The overall design of the MatePad T8 is very minimalist. At the back, it has a matte finish in deepsea blue. It also has a nice curved design for a more comfortable grip. The primary camera is placed on the upper right part of the screen.

On top, you’ll find the speaker, the microphone, and a 3.5mm headphone jack slot. At the left side of the tablet is where you will see the slot for the SIM and microSD cards while the volume and power keys are found at the right side. Meanwhile, the micro USB port is located at the bottom part of the tablet.

Overall, I really like how this tablet fits perfectly on my hands with ease. It only weighs 310g making it ideal for one handed browsing and can be easily put on your bag or carry it around with one hand. Perfect device to bring with you anywhere.

Design And Display

As mentioned, the tablet uses 8-inch LCD screen w/ HD 1280 x 800 resolution at 189 ppi. It is noticeably sharper and clearer than most tablets at this price range.

I also like that it can display vivid colors and good contrast. It also features an enhanced Eye Comfort Mode that helps protect eyes from blue light. Aside from this feature, users will receive an alert to adjust the way they hold the tablet at a certain angle to further protect their eyes while lying down.

I personally love reading my favorite eBooks with the Huawei MatePad T8. You can hold it with a single hand while reading. It’s comfortable to hold and read for long hours and there is no eye strain.

On its display settings, there’s an option to adjust the color tone of its screen depending on your preference. It also has an enhanced Eye Comfort Mode to lessen the emission of blue light and protect the eyes of its user.

Battery

The Huawei MatePad T8 has a high battery capacity of 5,100mAh, enabling users to enjoy their favorite video content longer on the go or while relaxing in the comfort of their own home. According to Huawei, this tablet lasts at least 12 hours on a single charge, giving more time for local video playback and web browsing.

Camera

The 2MP front camera may not replace the camera on your smartphone but it’s a great alternative and is good enough for online video conferencing. At the back is a 5-megapixel camera with no flash that is good enough for sharing images on social media but don’t expect professional level photography. After all, you’re dealing with a camera that has very limited optics.

Huawei AppGallery

The Huawei AppGallery is the official app market of Huawei smartphones that comes preloaded since April 2018. The Huawei AppGallery is more than just the default app store on their newest smartphones. It is currently the third-biggest app distribution platform globally with 180 billion downloads and 390 million monthly active users worldwide. Every day the AppGallery grows bigger, adding more apps and games to its repertoire for users to enjoy.
