The OPPO A76, featuring a 6.56-inch screen with a 90Hz refresh rate, a Snapdragon 680 4G CPU, and a 5,000mAh battery with 33W SuperVOOC charging, has been officially released in the Philippines. Marketed as a mid-range phone, it boasts an attractive design and remains reasonably priced at PHP 11,999.

However, with strong competition in the market, there are areas where its features can be improved. So, the question remains: is the OPPO A76 worth buying?

Unboxing/Accessories

The box, which is light blue in color, has the brand and unit names printed on it. Inside, you’ll find the OPPO A76 phone, a USB Type-A to USB Type-C data/charging cable, and a 33W SuperVOOC charger. Also included in a separate, small box are the SIM ejector tool, quick start manual, and warranty card. Additionally, a complimentary protective cover is included, fitting the phone flawlessly without compromising its visual appeal.

Build and Design

The OPPO A76 strikes a perfect balance in size, neither too large nor too small. The 3D slender body, measuring roughly 164 mm long, 75.7 mm wide, and 8.4 mm thin, boasts a stylish appearance. At 189 grams, it feels comfortable to hold and carry, making it ideal for users on the go.

This smartphone has the makings of a perfect fashion accessory for the modern era. It features the distinctive OPPO Glow Design, achieved through the innovative Reno Glow diamond-cutting process. The phone’s back boasts a smooth, matte texture, resistant to scratches, smudges, and dust. The Glowing Blue model we tested truly stands out from the competition, but the equally stunning Glowing Black option is also available.

Considering its price point, the OPPO A76 offers remarkable value. It features a large 6.56-inch display with an impressive 89.9% screen-to-body ratio, a smooth 90Hz refresh rate, and a comfortable 720 x 1612 HD resolution that is easy on the eyes. The LCD display delivers a viewing experience comparable to more expensive devices, making it suitable for both watching videos and playing games. The single internal speaker performs admirably.

Display

Taking a closer look, the OPPO A76 boasts a large 6.56-inch IPS LCD screen with a smooth 90Hz refresh rate, 1612 x 720 resolution, and 269 ppi pixel density. For exceptional responsiveness during tasks like gaming, it features a 180Hz touch sampling rate. While the resolution is just HD+, the phone prioritizes eye comfort through its all-day AI eye care function.

Despite its HD+ resolution, the display remains bright enough for both indoor and outdoor use. Vibrant colors and wide viewing angles further enhance the viewing experience. Additionally, the display is customizable, allowing you to adjust the screen color temperature, choose between Gentle and Vivid color modes, and adjust the dark mode intensity. You can also switch between the 90Hz refresh rate for smooth visuals or opt for 60Hz to conserve battery life.

Under the Hood

Both the phone’s exterior design and its hardware are impressive. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 4G Mobile Platform delivers efficient and reliable performance. The included 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage offer ample space, with the option to expand to 1TB using a microSD card. This ensures smooth multitasking and handling of various applications.

The software side runs on ColorOS 11.1, based on Android 11. ColorOS offers extensive customization options, allowing you to modify fonts, colors, fingerprint styles, app layouts, and icon styles. You can even personalize the navigation buttons and enable the app drawer in the settings.

The phone’s gaming capabilities are evident when playing Mobile Legends on Ultra graphics settings. While performance is decent with acceptable latency, a smoother experience might be achieved with lower graphics settings. However, the lack of a 1080p display resolution remains a potential drawback.

Battery Life

The OPPO A76 boasts one of the largest batteries in the market at 5,000 mAh, ensuring it stays powered throughout the day and meets user demands. A full charge keeps you going all day long, and with its rapid charging capabilities, it’s perfect for those unexpected situations. A mere 5-minute charge provides nearly 4 hours of voice calls, 62 minutes of video conferencing, and over 2 hours of YouTube viewing. Needless to say, the 33W SuperVOOC fast charging is truly impressive.

OPPO A76 Review Performance

If you’re ever running low on battery, don’t fret. The smartphone features a Super Power Saving Mode that activates at 10% and allows you to use up to six essential apps. Even at 5% battery, you can still use Messenger or similar apps for up to 80 minutes and make calls for up to 109 minutes.

The Super Nighttime Standby mode leverages AI to analyze your sleep patterns and optimize power consumption while you rest. This mode minimizes overnight battery drain to only 2%. Additionally, the Optimized Night Charging feature, designed for nighttime charging, automatically pauses charging at 80% and resumes just before your typical wake-up time, ensuring a full battery when you need it most.

Camera

The OPPO A76 features a dual-camera system designed for optimized images. It comprises a 13MP main camera with a 6x digital zoom and a 2MP bokeh camera for creating portrait effects with blurred backgrounds. The 8MP front-facing camera, discreetly positioned in the top left corner, allows for capturing clear selfies any time of day.

The A76 excels in capturing true-to-life colors, making it a great choice for outdoor photography. While indoor photography is possible, it may be limited in challenging lighting conditions. However, the bokeh effect stands out in the mid-range market, effectively blurring the background to emphasize the subject in portraits. Additionally, the front camera delivers impressive clarity for selfies.
