The Reno 8 Z 5G and the Reno 8 5G have been released by OPPO in the Philippines, expanding the Reno series. OPPO is marketing these two smartphones as “The Portrait Expert” because they feature a unique design that enables them to capture portrait shots like no other. The Reno 8 Series 5G, which we’ve already seen, pleased us with its design and build quality. Join us as we unfold the Reno 8 Z 5G.

Unboxing/Accessories

The package arrived with a distinctive design in Mint Green and Black. The printing was changed with a massive number 8 in the upper left corner, and the new branding and the 5G logo can be seen underneath. Despite how small the packaging is, we do appreciate the trendy design that OPPO has done here.

The OPPO Reno 8 Z 5G smartphone, a 33W SuperVOOC charger, a USB Type-C data/charging cable, a TPU transparent cover for protection, printed documentation, and the SIM ejection tool are all included in the box. As expected, the OPPO Reno 8 Z 5G doesn’t come with earphones; you must purchase them separately.

What’s inside the box?

Build Quality/Design

The OPPO Reno 8 5G has a chic look, and we were given the Dawnlight Gold version for this review. OPPO flattened the sides of the Reno 8 5G to conform to modern design trends. This makes it pleasant to carry and use comfortably, even with one-hand operation. While using the phone, the rounded corners give a more ergonomic feel. However, the plastic frame does cut the overall premium feel.

The right side houses the power button and on the left will be the volume rockers and SIM card slot.
3.5mm jack along with a USB Type-C port and the loudspeaker grille.
dual-SIM and microSD card slot

The Reno 8 5G weighs only 181g, making it lightweight and unfatiguing for prolonged use. You get a sizable 6.43-inch screen with a cutout for the selfie camera in the top-left corner. Except for the chin at the bottom, it has relatively narrow bezels that contribute to an immersive experience. It’s interesting to note that OPPO chose Schott Xensation Up over Corning Gorilla Glass 5 as the display’s protective layer.

An AMOLED display with a full-HD+ resolution, 600 nits of brightness and 180Hz touch-sampling rate is included on the OPPO Reno 8 Z 5G.

Only the secondary mic is present on the top of the frame. The primary microphone, speaker, and USB Type-C connector are all located at the bottom, along with the SIM tray. The power button is located on the right side, and the volume rockers and SIM card slot are located on the left.

Under the Hood

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 5G chipset, which has an octa-core CPU and an Adreno 619 GPU, powers the OPPO Reno8 Z 5G. It is paired with 8GB of RAM and has an Extended RAM option for an additional 5GB. It has 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage. And the battery has a 4,500mAh capacity and can be charged quickly with a 33W SuperVOOC charger.

Camera

A triple camera setup is used on the OPPO Reno 8 Z 5G. Its main camera is 64 megapixels and has a 6P lens. The other two cameras are a 2-megapixel depth camera and a 2-megapixel macro camera. The OPPO Reno 8 Z 5G has a 16-megapixel selfie camera for selfies. I had no trouble using the camera app, which is very intuitive and easy to use.

Here are our early samples of the OPPO Reno 8 Z 5G camera.

It is clear that the Reno8 Z 5G is a decent camera shooter in well-lit conditions. Both indoors and outdoors, the colors are reasonably vivid and the details are distinct. The dedicated Night Mode worked wonderfully as well.
