AirAsia Philippines Enforces New Power Bank Safety Guidelines for Passengers

AirAsia Philippines advises guests to comply with new cabin policy on power bank use

AirAsia Philippines has reinforced its commitment to global aviation safety standards by implementing new guidelines from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) regarding the use of portable electronic devices, particularly power banks. This move aligns with CAAP’s ongoing efforts to ensure passenger safety during flights.

In accordance with CAAP’s Advisory Circular No. 18-005, the use of power banks is strictly prohibited during flights due to the potential risks associated with lithium-ion batteries. These batteries pose a fire hazard if mishandled or exposed to extreme conditions, prompting stricter regulations.

AirAsia Philippines’ updated policy still permits passengers to carry up to two power banks, provided each unit does not exceed 100 watt-hours (Wh). This limit follows international standards on battery capacity for air travel to mitigate safety risks.

For passenger safety, AirAsia Philippines requires that power banks must not be stored in overhead compartments. Instead, travelers should keep them with their personal belongings, such as under the seat or in the seat pocket in front. Importantly, the use of power banks during the flight is strictly prohibited.

“While we understand that power banks are now part of travel essentials for our guests, safety always comes first at AirAsia. We highly encourage our guests to charge their electronic devices prior to boarding and ensure maximum compliance that is enforced by our highly trained on ground and inflight crew,” said AirAsia Philippines Communications and Public Affairs Head, First Officer Steve Dailisan.

To ensure passengers are informed, AirAsia Philippines will remind guests of this policy before boarding. Passengers caught using power banks during the flight will initially receive a warning. If non-compliance persists, the power bank will be confiscated and returned upon landing to prevent any safety risks during travel.

For flights to South Korea, additional regulations may apply. Passengers traveling to this destination are encouraged to visit airasia.com or consult AskBo through the AirAsia MOVE App for detailed information regarding safety protocols and power bank usage restrictions.

AirAsia Philippines’ proactive approach to enforcing CAAP’s safety regulations reflects its dedication to passenger welfare. By clearly outlining these guidelines and promoting awareness, the airline continues to prioritize a secure and smooth travel experience for its guests.
