At the annual ONE PIECE Day celebration in Tokyo, Japan, Netflix revealed an exciting first look at the highly anticipated second season of the hit live-action pirate adventure. Fans can mark their calendars for 2026, when Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hats will set sail once again. In even bigger news, Netflix confirmed that ONE PIECE has already been renewed for a third season, with production set to begin in Cape Town, South Africa later this year. Ian Stokes will join Joe Tracz as co-showrunner, writer, and executive producer for Season 3.

An Epic Voyage into the Grand Line
The official synopsis for ONE PIECE: INTO THE GRAND LINE promises “fiercer adversaries and the most perilous quests yet.” Luffy and the Straw Hats set sail for the extraordinary Grand Line, a legendary stretch of sea where danger and wonder await at every turn. As they journey through this unpredictable realm in search of the world’s greatest treasure, they will encounter bizarre islands and a host of formidable new enemies.

Season 2 co-showrunner, writer, and executive producer Matt Owens previously confirmed that the fan-favorite character Dr. Kureha will appear in the new season. “When the Season 2 writers’ room got together, we knew how far we were going to get and that this character Dr. Kureha was going to be a big part of the season,” Owens said. Season 2 will also introduce the beloved reindeer-boy hybrid Tony Tony Chopper. “The place that we were talking about all of Season 1, we’re in it now,” Owens added, referring to the Grand Line.
Locations, Story Arcs, and Production Updates
Series creator Eiichiro Oda has teased that the new season’s story will cover several key arcs, including Loguetown, Reverse Mountain (Twin Capes), Whiskey Peak, Little Island, and Drum Island. Filming brought the cast together from all over the world, including Mexico, Japan, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas, as they reunited in South Africa. Returning cast members include Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji.

Production on Season 2 has already wrapped. The cast celebrated the end of filming with a behind-the-scenes photo, marking another milestone in the global phenomenon’s journey.
The Creative Team Behind the Adventure

Additional executive producers include Eiichiro Oda, Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements through Tomorrow Studios, Tetsu Fujimura, Chris Symes, Christoph Schrewe, and Steven Maeda. ONE PIECE is created in partnership with Shueisha and produced by Tomorrow Studios, an ITV Studios partner, and Netflix.
The ONE PIECE Legacy
Netflix’s live-action adaptation is based on Eiichiro Oda’s record-breaking manga, the highest-selling in Japanese history with over 100 volumes and 500 million copies sold worldwide. The series follows Monkey D. Luffy on his quest to find the legendary treasure, the One Piece, and claim the title of King of the Pirates. Since its debut in 2023, the live-action adaptation has captured a vast, multigenerational audience. It spent eight weeks on Netflix’s Global Top 10, reached the number one spot in over 75 countries, and became the first English-language Netflix series to debut at number one in Japan. With nearly 100 million views and multiple award nominations, including 11 Children’s & Family Emmy nods, ONE PIECE has become one of Netflix’s most downloaded shows of all time.

Beyond the screen, fans can immerse themselves in the world of ONE PIECE through experiences such as the upcoming attraction at Netflix House. Merchandise including LEGO sets, toys from Moose Toys, and more is available via Netflix Shop and retailers worldwide.
