The vivo V50 5G arrives in a box that immediately catches the eye with its sleek design. The top features the vivo logo in metallic silver, giving it a premium feel. Just below, the V50 5G branding is surrounded by a glowing blue ring, subtly referencing the phone’s Aura Light—a standout feature in its camera system that enhances portrait lighting across different environments. The matte black finish of the box is complemented by a subtle circular pattern, adding depth and texture to the overall look. Prominently displayed under the V50 5G logo is the “co-engineered with ZEISS” tagline, highlighting the collaboration with the renowned optics brand to deliver cutting-edge camera technology. Opening the box reveals the vivo V50 5G, neatly wrapped in protective plastic. Beneath the device, you’ll find all the essentials for a smooth setup: a USB Type-C charging cable, a powerful 90W FlashCharge adapter for fast charging, and a transparent silicone case for extra protection. Build Quality / Design

The vivo V50 5G immediately strikes a strong visual impression with its beautiful and aesthetically pleasing appearance. Its curved shell design adds a touch of elegance while contributing to the phone’s ergonomic grip. Our review unit comes in the bold Ancora Red colorway which along with Mist Purple, features a glass back. The Satin Black variant uses a plastic composite material. These material choices also account for slight differences in thickness and weight. The Satin Black model measures 7.39 mm thick and weighs 189 grams, while the Ancora Red and Mist Purple variants are 7.57 mm thick and weigh 199 grams. Despite the difference, the phone still feels comfortable to hold and slips easily into your pocket.

Up front, the vivo V50 5G features a 4D Infinity Curved Screen that seamlessly blends into the sides for a more immersive look and feel. It uses vivo’s Remarkable Shield Glass paired with a Comprehensive Cushioning Structure, an internal drop resistance solution that provides enhanced protection from scratches and accidental drops. The phone’s layout is well thought out. The power button and volume rocker are located on the right side, keeping the left clean and minimal. At the bottom, you’ll find the dual SIM card slot, USB-C charging port, and speaker grille. The earpiece doubles as a secondary loudspeaker while the top edge houses a microphone. For added security, the vivo V50 5G includes both an in-display optical fingerprint scanner and AI-powered face unlock. If you’re concerned about durability, the device is IP68 and IP69 rated, which means it offers strong resistance to dust, splashes, and water immersion without compromising on style or portability.

Display

I’ve been using the vivo V50 5G as my daily driver for over two weeks now, and its 6.78-inch FHD+ 3D Curved AMOLED display has truly impressed me. The adaptive 120Hz refresh rate makes scrolling and watching videos incredibly smooth and responsive. With slim bezels and an elegant quad-curved design, the screen feels expansive and premium. It is perfect for binge-watching content, scrolling through social media, or simply enjoying the vibrant interface.

Scrolling through TikTok and Instagram was especially enjoyable. The display’s support for 1.07 billion colors and a cinema-grade P3 wide color gamut made every video and photo pop with rich, true-to-life hues. The impressive 8,000,000:1 contrast ratio delivers deep blacks and sharp details, elevating everything from casual reels to cinematic trailers. Plus, with HDR10+ support, compatible videos come alive with enhanced brightness and dynamic range.

One of the standout features is its peak brightness of up to 4,500 nits, which made using the phone outdoors under direct sunlight effortless, a common pain point for many devices. The display is also SGS low blue light certified, helping reduce eye strain during long viewing sessions.

Overall, the vivo V50 5G offers a sharp, vibrant, and comfortable viewing experience that fits perfectly with everyday use and anyone who appreciates immersive visuals and smooth performance.

Camera

The vivo V50 5G features an advanced triple ZEISS camera system designed to deliver professional-grade photography and videography. It boasts ZEISS All Main Cameras equipped with a flagship 1/1.55-inch sensor, ensuring every photo you take is a masterpiece. The setup includes a 50MP main camera with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) for sharp, low-light images; a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens with a 119° field of view perfect for landscapes and group shots; and a 50MP front-facing group selfie camera with a 92° wide-angle lens and autofocus, all housed neatly within a punch-hole design on the screen. Complementing this is the eye-catching Gemini Ring Design around the rear cameras, which adds a stylish and futuristic look while highlighting the phone’s photographic capabilities.

As someone who enjoys mobile photography and often travels, I really appreciated capturing images and videos using the vivo V50 5G. We took the device to Enchanted Kingdom in Laguna and during our staycation at Savoy Hotel Manila, and we really enjoyed using it to create photo and video content throughout our trips. Plus, the fact that we could use the device even while swimming in the pool takes this phone to the next level as a perfect travel companion. I’ll surely bring this device with me during my upcoming trip to Cagraray Island in Albay Province, Bicol at the end of the month.

During our test, we noticed the camera sometimes smooths out facial details too much, especially when using the 50mm focal length. This can make faces look a bit unnatural and may cause skin tones and clothing colors to appear less accurate due to overexposure. Despite this, the overall picture quality is still very good, especially considering the phone doesn’t have a dedicated telephoto lens.

One of the standout features is the Multi-focal Portrait Photography powered by the ZEISS Multifocal Portrait system. This lets you choose between three focal lengths—23mm, 35mm, and 50mm—which you can easily select from the lower part of the screen when in portrait mode. On the right side, you’ll also find seven different ZEISS Style Bokeh Effects to customize the background blur and artistic feel of your photos. These effects include Biotar, B-Speed, Sonnar, Planar, Distagon, Cine-Flare, and Cinematic, each giving your portraits a unique and professional look. We haven’t explored this section extensively during our review yet, but I can already see a lot of potential. I’ll be focusing more on this feature during our upcoming trip to Cagraray Island, so watch out for that soon!

The AI Aura Light Portrait 2.0 on the vivo V50 5G enhances your portraits with professional-quality lighting effects. It offers creative lighting styles like Butterfly Light, which highlights facial contours for a glamorous look; Rembrandt Light, adding dramatic depth with subtle side fill; Festival, bringing vibrant and colorful tones perfect for lively celebrations; and Lowlight, designed to brighten faces naturally in dim environments. Complementing this is the AI 3D Studio Lighting 2.0, which adds side fill and diagonal top fill lights to enrich facial texture and enhance contour shadows, giving your portraits a realistic three-dimensional feel. These versatile lighting options help you capture stunning portraits in any setting.

For video enthusiasts, the vivo V50 5G offers CIPA 4.0 DSLR-level stabilization, delivering smooth and cinematic footage. You can record up to 4K at 30 FPS on all ZEISS lenses, with ultra-stabilization mode available at 1080p/30 FPS. The phone also comes with AI Image Studio features such as AI Erase 2.0 to remove unwanted objects, Live Cutout for clean subject isolation, and a Film Camera Mode to add vintage aesthetics to your photos and videos.

Here are some sample images taken with the vivo V50 5G. These examples showcase its performance in various lighting conditions and scenarios.

Performance

Under the hood, the vivo V50 5G is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chip, paired with 12GB of RAM and an additional 12GB of extended RAM expansion, giving you a total of 24GB of RAM. For storage, the unit we got has 256GB of ROM. The Ultra Large VC Smart Cooling System reduces the core area temperature by up to 14°C, significantly improving performance and keeping the device cool during heavy use.

We tested several popular games on the vivo V50 5G, including Farlight 84, Mobile Legends, and Call of Duty: Mobile. While the device is capable of running these titles, it’s best suited for casual to mid-range gaming. Mobile Legends ran smoothly on High graphics and High frame rate settings, delivering a solid experience with minimal lag. Farlight 84 performed adequately, though occasional frame drops were noticeable during intense action scenes. Call of Duty: Mobile defaulted to Medium graphics and Medium frame rate, running decently but with some limitations. As expected, Genshin Impact automatically sets the graphics to the lowest settings due to the game’s demanding requirements.

For those seeking a device with reliable everyday performance, the vivo V50 5G meets expectations. However, power users or those running resource-intensive applications may experience some lag or slowdowns, particularly in lower RAM variants. Overall, the vivo V50 5G offers a balanced performance that suits typical daily tasks and casual gaming, making it a solid choice for mainstream consumers. The phone also offers a massive memory space for seamless multitasking with over 40 apps running simultaneously.

These benchmark scores reflect the vivo V50 5G’s solid mid-range performance capabilities. The Geekbench scores show it can handle everyday tasks efficiently, while the high AnTuTu score indicates good overall system performance. The Wild Life Extreme Stress Test results demonstrate excellent thermal stability and sustained performance during extended gaming or intensive use.

Storage

The vivo V50 5G does not support expandable storage via microSD, so storage options are limited to the built-in capacity. It comes in three configurations: 8GB RAM + 256GB ROM, 12GB RAM + 256GB ROM, and 12GB RAM + 512GB ROM, providing flexibility based on your needs. The device features UFS 2.2 storage, which ensures faster data transfer speeds for better app performance and responsiveness. Additionally, the vivo V50 5G supports extended RAM technology, allowing part of the internal storage to be used as extra RAM for smoother multitasking, letting you run over 40 apps simultaneously without significant slowdowns. For most users, the 256GB variants are sufficient for daily use, casual gaming, and media storage. However, if you take lots of photos and videos, opting for the 12GB RAM + 512GB ROM variant is highly recommended to avoid running out of space.

Powering all these features is a massive 6000mAh BlueVolt battery designed to keep up with your day, whether you’re capturing photos, streaming videos, or browsing the web. The vivo V50 5G supports 90W FlashCharge technology, allowing it to charge from 0% to 100% in approximately 50 to 55 minutes under optimal conditions. With this combination of long battery life and rapid charging, the vivo V50 5G offers a reliable power solution that suits users who need both endurance and convenience in a smartphone.
