DHL Express, the world’s leading international express service provider, has taken a significant step towards sustainability by incorporating 22 additional electric vans (EVs) into its last-mile pickup and delivery fleet. With this latest expansion, DHL Express now operates close to 70 electric vehicles, accounting for 35% of its entire fleet. This marks a considerable increase from the 24% recorded last year, reinforcing the company’s commitment to green logistics and sustainable business practices.

The expansion of DHL Express’ EV fleet aligns with its broader sustainability objectives, emphasizing the use of alternative fuels, electric vehicles, and optimized transportation routes to minimize greenhouse gas emissions. By prioritizing sustainability, the company continues to integrate environmental responsibility into its business strategy, supporting its fourth strategic bottom line, “Green Logistics of Choice.” This initiative is a key component of DHL Express’ overarching Strategy 2030, which aims to foster an eco-friendly logistics network.

Recognizing the global urgency of climate change, DHL Express has actively pursued greener operations. The introduction of more electric vehicles contributes to reducing the carbon footprint of its logistics services. Nigel Lockett, Country Manager of DHL Express Philippines, emphasized the importance of this transition, stating, “The expansion of electric vehicles into the DHL Express fleet plays an important role in reducing the environmental impact of our business processes as part of our commitment to one of our Group’s four bottom lines, green logistics of choice. Recognizing the global urgency of climate change, our goal as a logistics leader is to adapt our service offerings and operations to the changing landscape.”

DHL Express first introduced electric vehicles in the Philippines in December 2021, marking the beginning of its commitment to electrification in the region. This initiative supports DHL Group’s global target of having 60% of its pickup and delivery fleet powered by electric vehicles by 2030. The company’s continuous investment in sustainable logistics underscores its proactive approach to reducing carbon emissions and fostering an environmentally responsible supply chain.

Beyond the adoption of electric vehicles, DHL Express has also launched innovative solutions aimed at further reducing its environmental impact. In 2023, the company introduced the GoGreen Plus service, which allows customers to minimize the greenhouse gas emissions associated with their international air cargo shipments. This service leverages sustainable aviation fuel, contributing to cleaner air transport. GoGreen Plus is made possible through strategic collaborations with industry leaders such as BP, Neste, and World Energy, ensuring that sustainable practices are deeply embedded within DHL Express’ operations.

By integrating electric vehicles into its fleet, optimizing delivery routes, and promoting alternative fuel sources, DHL Express continues to lead the way in sustainable logistics.

The expansion of DHL Express’ electric vehicle fleet serves as a testament to the company’s unwavering commitment to environmental responsibility.
